?UESTLOVE from THE ROOTS (Philadelphia, PA) Okayplayer - BBE

EXCLUSIVE 3-HOUR DJ SET

no disrespect to James Brown intended, BUT...Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson — drummer, producer, central figure of The Roots —is the hardest working man in show business. Along with penning liner notes to JB’s remastered Live at The Apollo Vol. 2, Thompson’s sched has been rediculously busy - he mixed the latest Macy Gray CD (with Rick Rubin) as well as drumming live dates for her (like he did for D’Angelo and his Voodoo); he recorded The Philadelphia Experiment with Christian McBride and Uri Cainein in one shot ; played with Shuggie Otis, on Nikka Costa’s new CD, recently completed in sessions with Common and for Zach de la Rocha’s solo debut; produced Erykah Badu, Bilal and bits of Soulquarians with James Poyser; worked with Nike on commercials and an upcoming off-Broadway musical; he's worked on/recorded soundtracks to Brooklyn Babylon and Spike Lee's Bamboozled; and he's currently producing and overseeing the next in the series of Red Hot projects: Red Hot +Riot, dedicated to Afrobeat god Fela Kuti (whose son Femi just left Philly after recording with Ahmir); he runs Motive (MCA), which recently released the critaically acclaimed debut from Jaguar and is set to release CDs by Black Thought and, oh yeah, The Roots. PLUS he has a new album out on BBE; the label that previously put out albums by Pete Rock, Jay Dee, Jazzy Jeff, & Marley Marl.

plus special early performance by:

URSULA RUCKER (Philadelphia, PA) K7 Records

Attracted to diverse genres with roots firmly grounded in hip-hop, Ursula Rucker's music is an intricate balance between new jazz, hip-hop and Philly soul - all infused with poetic vision.
Always entertaining, provocative and socially conscious, she has collaborated with some of the most innovative artists in music including The Roots, Jazzanova, 4 Hero, Bahamadia, King Britt, Josh Wink, Jamaladeen Tacuma, and The Silent Poets.

show begins at 10:00 pm
party begins at 11:00 pm

$18 door only - VERY LIMITED CAPACITY

Sean is an unknown quantity at this point
If I didn't have my Tiesto ticket I'd go to this in a heartbeat. The Roots are the bomb.
