On September 11th 2003, the web-based Guerrilla News Network will host simultaneous worldwide screenings of the groundbreaking documentary, “Aftermath: Unanswered Questions from 9/11”. In Canada, screenings will be held in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. This event will be followed by an interactive panel discussion where audience members will be invited to address issues raised in the film with local experts in four key areas: The Media, Local and Global Politics, Law & Civil Liberties, and Oil & the Environment. The screenings and discussion panels will be followed by a reception. Proceeds from the event will be donated to “Projections”. (“Projections” is a nine-month training and mentorship project involving a partnership between professionals from the film, video and television industries, community-media programs and street-involved youth from Vancouver's Downtown South and Downtown East side. For more info please visit http://www.projections.ca) About "Aftermath" Though September 11th, 2003 marks the film's first co-ordinated global screening, in the time since its release, AfterMath: Unanswered Questions from 9/11 has been screened in Germany, Mexico, Italy and the UK and has been translated into four languages. Aftermath's award-winning Creative Director, Stephen Marshall, has worked in more than 50 countries and has collaborated with Peter Gabriel and Eminem in developing GNN's signature format: the NewsVideo. A previous GNN NewsVideo, Crack the CIA, investigated that organization's ostensible role in smuggling drugs from Nicaragua to the United States and won the Short Subject Audience Award at the 2002 Sundance Online Film Festival. Marshall, a Canadian ex-pat now based in Berkeley CA, was also originator of Toronto-based Channel Zero - the world's first global VHS newsmagazine that combined ambient electronic beats with criticism of the mainstream media. "We're just trying to create a portal of entry for people who wouldn't normally know about these issues," Marshall says. This September will mark the two-year anniversary of the tragic terrorist attacks on the United States. While for many people around the world this event is now a part of history, many others remain uncertain about the government's response to, and potential foreknowledge of, the 9/11 crisis. Most media will use this opportunity to look back uncritically at the event that "changed our lives forever". For example, the Showtime Network recently announced that it would premiere its revisionist docu-drama “DC 9/11” a few days before the anniversary of the event. To counter the shallow coverage, GNN is hosting worldwide screenings of its own. Here are some of the 11 unanswered questions that the film focuses on: What the Bush administration knew and when they knew it; What links there are between the Bush Administration and key players in the terrorist underworld; What have been the repercussions from the attacks and what agendas have been advanced in the name of a War on Terror; What do we do now? The Film Features: George Soros, (billionaire philanthropist), Mary Schiavo (Aviation Disaster Attorney), Mike Ruppert (Publisher: From the Wilderness), Nafeez Ahmed (Author: The War on Freedom), David McMichael (former CIA analyst), Michel Chossudovsky (Author: War and Globalization), Peter Dale Scott (Professor Emeritus, UC Berkeley), Alex Jones (Editor: Infowars.com), John Judge (Founder, C.O.P.A.), Riva Enteen (Exec. Director, SF National Lawyer's Guild) 9/11 in Canada What is the relevance of such a film to Canadians? We must first recognize that Canada and the U.S. are inextricably linked – socially, economically, and environmentally. Also, we must see clearly the agenda being advanced alongside the War on Terror, and how this affects citizens of every country. In order to explore this, Canadian screenings will be followed by a panel discussion with local participant/experts from the following disciplines: The Media, Local and Global Politics, Law & Civil Liberties, Oil and the Environment Media Most media outlets have not reported critical information related to 9-11 that is in the public domain. Even basic and uncontroversial facts call into question the official story of 9-11. No matter where each of us stands politically, we are left to ask: Why did so many important facts go under-reported by the media? Local and Global Politics In 2000 the conservative think-tank Project for a New American Century published a document titled “Rebuilding America Defences.” It states: As the 20th century draws to a close, the United States stands as the world's pre-eminent power. Having led the West to victory in the Cold War, America faces an opportunity and a challenge: Does the United States have the vision to build upon the achievements of past decades? Does the United States have the resolve to shape a new century favourable to American principles and interests? According to the think-tank, members of whom now serve in senior positions in the Bush Administration, key tenets of “American principles” include the privatization of economies and the liberalization of trade policy. Iraq itself is to be rebuilt as a model society along these lines. The war in Iraq was justified to Americans based on the unproven connection between 9-11 and Saddam Hussein. Clearly, 9-11 is being used as an engine to drive a political agenda. To discuss local and global political issues, the Vancouver syndicate is pleased to announce the participation of noted pollster and Vancouver Sun columnist Angus Reid. Law and Civil Liberties The film makes a multitude of references to the USA Patriot Act. Many Canadians do not know that Canada has its own version - Bills C-35 & C-36. Ironically, both the U.S. and Canadian legislation curtail freedom and human rights in the name of freedom and human rights. “Aftermath” tackles this issue in the US context, but the Canadian experience has examples of its own to offer. To discuss this, the Vancouver chapter is pleased to announce that John Russell, Vice President of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association has agreed to sit on the panel. Oil and the Environment Another important factor in the War on Terror is the strategic value of global oil reserves. The film seeks to address the very real influences of a fossil-fuel agenda in today’s geo-political climate. For Canadians, as the largest supplier of fossil fuels to the United States, the strategic imperatives of the U.S. fossil-fuel agenda cannot be ignored. To discuss this, the Vancouver chapter is pleased to announce the participation of Matt Price, activist, and authour of “America’s Gas Tank: the High Cost of Canada’s Oil and Gas Export Strategy.” The Vancouver chapter of GNN's Guerrilla Syndicate is currently seeking panel participants in the areas of Media and Local & Global Politics. The syndicate also seeks volunteers and sponsors who may help shape this informative and worthwhile event. ”Aftermath: Unanswered Questions from 9/11,” September 11th, 2003, the Croatian Cultural Centre, [address], doors open @ 7pm, screening begins @ 7:30pm. Panel and reception to follow. Last edited by Senior; Sep 04, 03 at 10:53 AM. |

Try web searching "Sherman Austin" and you'll see what happens when we let the authorities take away our rights. While you'll notice that this story recieved coverage by the indy media world wide I was unable to find even a mention of it in ANY main stream media.
This is a person who was thrown in jail for providing web hosting for someone else's web site. http://www.counterpunch.org/merlin08162003.html We should all be concerned about losing our rights and a major problem in this country and more so in the states is that our main stream media doesn't report things like this. |

I'm gonna have to check this out.
...Oh and speaking of rights being taken away Nolan, you can look no further than North Van's own David Hudak. Here's a guy that was completely in the legal confines of shipping weapons (bought from Cheney's Halliburton), had it approved by customs, stored them in an approved location, and was using it for commercial demolition. And after 911 ATF on a whim decided that they'd change the law and call him a terrorist. Scary shit mang! |

Drinks would be nice.. and a joint and maybe a few cigarettes.
I'm not sure if I'm emotionaly ready to put myself through that (I've had a very hard time dealing with the whole situation). But I sometimes come very close to becoming ignorrant while trying to protect myself and I don't want to do that anymore. It's obviously in a much different view than say television so hopefully it will make me think more instead of getting upset. |

This will definatley be a different view than what is presented on TV. I'd say the main difference is that this film was made to provide a critical commentary of what's happened. Ask the tough questions and examine what is known as far as the public records go. Don't expect to see the blood and guts version of things that is used by the big networks to get ratings.
Also what's going to be really positive about all of this is getting a chance to hear respected experts explain a bit about how this has affected Canadians. For instance as a part of Michael Rodenburgh 's presentation he'll be announcing the results of a nation wide opinion poll on the issues this event is focusing on. |
