anybody with past work experience on a cruise line?

I have recently been considering looking for a job on a cruise line. Right now I am in the middle of filling out about 40 aplicatoins!!! Has anybody done this before, or know anybody that has?

My friend Doug just got back from working on a cruise ship for the past 6 months or so- I'll steer him towards this thread. :) Also, ask Mykee (he's worked on one before if I remember correctly).

I've researched it the past few years.. ive always wanted to do it for a while as it is in the industry i want to be in eventually. and i wouldnt be looking for any booty while out there anyways

Good industry to go into, cuz you can work almost anywhere in the world with good experience. :)
Speaking of, I should get back into that maybe. I took a few hospitality and tourism courses ages ago.

I havent taken any courses yet, I know I don't need for working on a ship, that is something i will be doing in a year or so..

My cousin is a Cruise director, she goes away for months at a time. She started out on the disney cruise line.. She gets paid well but went through schooling/training. I guess it depends what you want to do on the boats...

I've heard good and bad.. I guess alot of it depends on which cruise lines you work for and what kinda work you're doing.

i have no experience to really do anything other than an enty level position and then move up or do more training after my first or second contract would be completed. i would only want to be doing it for a few years.

Yeah Ive got some bad stories. But different lines are different, as well as what you do on the ship.

it can be really bad if you hate the job and are stuck on the boat for another 6 months. then again you could love the job...its really important to do research but then again you can only find out by actually going and doing it yourself.

i would imagine they are kinda like floating hotels....

i've heard that some lines include your room and board into your salary and they charge outrageous rates for room and board so they really don't wind up paying you anything.
there was more but i stopped listening after i heard the above.

ive talked to a few dozen people about working on one cruise line that i went on. everyone loved that cruise line no matter what their job was. the only thing that sucks is that your not alloud on the upper decks, you have to live on the bottom decks for 6 months and may or may not have any days off. normally you signa contract for 5 months or so then get 8 months off and if the line really liked you they fly you back for another 5 or 6 months.

but you don't live in the hotel all the time.
think about living at work with the same customers and co-workers and never being able to get away from them really.
could be hell on water, really.
