Do you think that the macbook pro has enough power to be running Serato (intermittantly) as well as simultaneously live recording an entire set?


or does serato draw too many resources while in use.

SHOULD BE FINE AS LONG AS YOUR DISK DOESNT SUCK

MAY BE AN IDEA TO HAVE AN EXTERNAL FOR RECORDING/SERATO SO YOU ARENT RUNNING BOTH OFF THE SAME DISK, YOUR DISK I/O WILL BE YOUR BOTTLENECK

i was planning on getting the external HD for serato mp3s as per the previous thread still. and so you say if im recording to the internal while playing from external i should be ok?

give it a try, record a set in your bedroom and see if there are any hicups

sets are recorded in .wav format because there barely an compression needed (to mp3, you can do that after) so it will not bod down your cpu. its usually not a problem but that RPM is kinda slow...

i would say have an external HD or some sort of audio recorder (MD or other) hooked into your mixers master out/booth/ect and record that way.

well i am using a M-Audio transit for recording input.

M-AUDIO - Transit - Hi-Resolution Mobile Audio Upgrade

and using the external drive for mp3 storage.. i should be fine.. i've heard that serato can be a pretty big draw on resources.. but i think the pro has enough juice to perform both duties well.

I can do it fine on a Windows laptop with 1.83 Ghz dual core using an external USB sata drive - both OS and data on the external

the mbp dose have enough power but why take the chance?

invest in a standalone recorder ala the m-aduio microtrak or something of its ilk.

ive used the microtrak for feild recording extensively and its pretty good. records to compact flash....google it.

this way you open up all your MBP's resources and your in the clear.

this realy is the best way to go.
