halifax
if you ever get the chance or desire to go to halifax i suggest you do. ive been coming here regularly for the past eight or so years and this place has gotten me through a lot of shit. its culture and people, everyones laid backin a differant way than 'vacouver laid back'. the pubs are great, with awesome cover bands that all play the same songs and theres no bullshit drama just happy people getting along. they have a really neat way of life here and an innocence we lack. im going to miss this place but im never coming back. jager bombs, many, night

I couldn't agree with you more, Shannon. I loved Halifax when I was there - it felt like a small big city. It had a lot of charm and personality, and the downtown was quaint and fun to caper around. I have good memories of the market on the weekend... The nightlife was super - I was lucky enough to have a friend as an awesome guide (<3 aaron). Anyways, yeah, Halifax is definitely one of the only good reasons to go to the Maritimes, haha.
p.s. Did you end up at Bob Dylan? What did you think? |

awwww, I have so much love for ns in my heart. You are right about it being laid back in a different way, people out there are really nice and super friendly, here it's harder to make friends or meet new people if you come from somewhere else.
my whole fam. is from nova scotia if you go I suggest you check out Cape Breton Island too, because it's beautiful! (and there's good fishing if you like it..I was named after a river on that island!) My mum is in Nova Scotia all this month, the lucky duck. It's so nice there in the autumn. |

aha ya i went. i thought that i was glad i went but i expected more. i saw him like a year ago or less at the orphium and i wasnt impressed then, but he had done four shows in a row and show he did for us was basically all his country shit. So i had figuered we'd just had bad luck and was willing to give it a shot. it was a better show this time but its dissapointing because he never gets behind the guitar or even speak to the audience really. he just plays the key board and doesnt really do much on stage, he has the tendancy to bore. the who on sunday was awesome though, they were great.

It was my first time seeing him, and I think my expectations were set too high. I wanted to hear a lot of his diverse repertoire - it felt like he was just there to promote the new album. I also thought that the way Like a Rolling Stone and All Along the Watchtower were arranged in the encore wasn't that impressive. I would have preffered to hear a lot more of the just Bob + guitar. I actually didn't mind so much the fact that he didn't do much on stage (i wouldn't expect any different from him), but I was expecting him to show more of his own style, whereas I felt that he often got overshadowed by the band. It was cool to see him, but I don't think i'll be going to another show - maybe he's best admired from afar.
Roger Waters was in Seattle last week, he's the one I'm really disappointed I missed... |

I would love to check out Halifax sometime!...I've heard such awesome things..
I hope to backpack across Canada eventually..My Mom said that it was one of her favorite places to go..just that whole area..PEI..etc..when she travelled.. I've heard things about potatoes..and fiddles..and fisherman.. and strangers just welcoming you into their home.. oh man the music ...the music over there..*glee* and just wicked times..I also know someone going to school there right now and she loves it... I have to stop putting this off and just go. :) |
