^ see thats part of my mixed feelings about the Quebec being a "nation in Canada" movement. Every province is its own country if you want to say that. (you can probably bulk the territories together. And the maratimes together with the exception of Nfld). So all together that's, 9 "nations in Canada".

Every province is quite different from each other. To think of Quebec as a "nation with in the country" and not the others that way is kinda stupid. The only reason that Quebec would stand alone is its primarily french speaking. And that isn't enough.

Quebec has a lot of different laws, and obviously a more French outlook in every aspect that they run the province. It is more of a "nation" than most provinces, it has the most culture. It's ridiculous to let a seperatist to run all of Canada. If Quebec really wants to be separated, let them seperate. theyre never going to co-operatre with the rest of Canada, so let em go...blah, blah, blah...
Just because this new liberal dude can't speak good english or has a heavy French accent, doesn't mean shit-all, it didnt stop Chretien in his earily years. Harper can't speak good French, but he was still elected...after all, Canada is a bilingual country...at least they try to speak both. |

I love how some of you have full comprehension of the situation here.
And I love how other try to sound knowledgeable but come up falling flat on their face. lololol. I could care less about a leader compared to a solid platform in the end. The right "leader" is just for those people too dumb to analyze platforms. |

Historically they tie to the french a lot more..and indeed have a segregated culture that's a lot purer than the rest of canada's multicultural creation. In essense Quebec is a nation within a country moreso than any other province can claim besides maybe the NWT or Nunavut if they're all innuits. Quebec makes a fine claim for a nation within a state, but that doesn't make a big woop because there's no requirement of anyone appointing "nation" status, you can merely claim it yourself. Having Harper state that is sort of a "well, duh" statement.

i was pulling for dion to win from the beginning.
no he doesn't have the charisma that some of the other contenders have...but i would rather have a super smart geeky politician than one who is not as smart but makes awesome speeches. give me a break. we should be electing them on policies and intelligence, not their smiles. as for his english...he can speak english. yeah, it's not perfect, but i can understand everything that he is saying. you say he can barely speak the language, but that's total bullshit...everything i've read by him and seen on tv is completely understandable. you don't think that he can win an election against harper? but the day after he was chosen leader the liberals jumped in the polls to holding 6 or 7 percentage points ABOVE the conservatives. his ideas aren't lame. he wants sustainable development. without sustainable development we are going to be in the hole in our world pretty soon. i'm not talking just global warming here, but a host of other social and environmental problems. dion's all about helping the environment, while making money for the economy. maybe you should take a look at his plan for sustainable development before you write off his policies as lame (considering you admited you hadn't even taken a look at them yourself) all you people who automatically dismiss him because he wears glasses and is kinda shy and can't speak english totally perfect are dumbasses. if you don't like him, then don't like him for reasons that actually matter. |

i think stephane dion is a pretty good choice, even though gerard kennedy wouldve been my pick. As for his accent, do you think that really matters? do you remember what Jean Chrietien spoke like?
thank god that cock ignatieff diddnt win. p.s is dion supporting a carbon tax? that would be a pretty good idea, its not like he was going to win any votes in alberta anyway. |

Realisically Harper has dug his own hole and come next vote the NDP will have TONS of votes.... Reason being..... Remember when the conservative party was essentially the party from the "west", where the west felt all alienated all the time because the focus was always on the eastern provinces (primarily quebec). Conservatives said that there would be changes..... but what did they do turn there backs on the western provinces and again focus on the east... Stephane Dion.... Well that guy is just weird in my opinion... Seems like he doesn't have the balls for a real debate let alone leadership. Piss poor choice... As per people accusing him because he has dual citizenship because he is originally from france that is just a low blow.... I mean christ the canadian govenor general was born in Haiti... why didn't anybody complain about that?

I was weary of Dion, but I really think he is the anti politician politician, a real down to earth type and I am 100% into that. I think in a lot of ways, Canada does not want to have leaders that are too extreme- look at the recent political happenings in Alberta! Ignatief (sp) was a little too far right lib. for a lot of people- the guy supported the war in Iraq. Rae coming from the NDP was a little too far left liberal for people.
Stephane Dion can speak English, albeit not well. Neither could Jeanny C. Have you ever heard Harper try to speak French? It's all relative. Lest we forget that when Trudeau was elected the leader of the liberal party way back, he was a nobody in the world of politics and everybody doubted him. Harper has done nothing but piss me off while he's been in power. I am shocked a leader from Western Canada would do things to further alienate the west in true Ottawa style (nation within canada? what the fuck!). He is no better or less corrupt than the liberals were (hello, David Emerson!). I'm not saying I hate him because he's Conservative, but look at him. A Starbuck's muffin has more personality and charisma than Stephen Harper, so I really don't see where you get off calling Dion boring. |

^dion isn't boring either. he's kinda of a jerk and i like that. he doesn't pussy-foot around stuff, and because of his english skills, sometimes what he says comes out so frank you just have to laugh.
edit: mmmm starbucks muffin. |
