Just a Quick Question - Passports

Do I need a Passport just to cross the boarder for a day?

I tried googling it but I couldnt find it. It keeps saying not till 2008.....but I dont know for sure

if you are going by air/boat .. yes

if you are crossing by car all you need is a birth certificate.

passports in effect for flights at this moment.... by car you should be fine.

It's been in effect since January 23rd, apparently. For an extra $96, you can get it done overnight. Have to go to the Passport Service Centre in person though.

what if someone doesnt have a dl/bc id.. can you use a SIN or carecard?

well I have a DL, birth certificate and valid passport.

by airplane you NEED your passport
by car you DON'T NEED your passport just your birth certificate and gov't issued photo ID

Yes Kat, by car you are ok, although next year that might change.
You need a photo id as stated (drivers license/photo id) and your birth certificate, to drive there.

If you are flying you must have a passport

I was checking into it because my mother said something about it taking up to 6-8 months to get your passport. The site said, "due to a spike in demand for passports due to the United States' push for Canadians to carry passports when entering the country it can take up to 4-8 weeks to process" or something along those lines.

Apparently they are starting to enforce it by any means of travel.

I just assumed that you were inquiring because you don't have one.
