They flying me round trip and have put me up Wednesday, Thursday. If I wanna stay in town for the weekend I gotta cop the hotel fees. Where is a good cheap board in Manhattan? I don't wanna travel too far outside Soho if possible.

I believe it's an extra $90 to rush it.

Cinist - If you show them your tickets they will guarentee your passport before your travel date.

Anyways, a few people I know all went together and did their passports - they had them within 15 days.

You have to fill out a whole other form if your gaurantor hasn't known you for 2 years. Your best bet if you don't have a doctor to sign it, would be to fill out that other form and get it notarized by a lawyer. :)

^^not true, there are some half decent hostels down in the chelsea area that are far from scuzzy. I've never stayed at them but have had several friends house up in them for a few nights.

Please be advised that these costs are in addition to the regular processing fee of $87. You must also provide a document stating the "urgency" of your passport:

Reason Definition Specific Requirements

*Death / Illness Urgent travel is required due to death or serious illness. Death certificate or letter from attending physician.

*Business Urgent travel is required for business reasons. Letter from employer indicating need for travel.

*Humanitarian Grounds Urgent travel is required for humanitarian reasons (i.e. Red Cross, UNICEF, Doctors without boarders, etc.). Letter from organization indicating need to travel.

*Deployment / Mission Abroad Urgent travel is required for national security (deployment or mission abroad). Letter from the applicable government department indicating the rational for travel, and travel itinerary

It would be faster to do it online and print it. There is a separate line in the passport office called "express" that you can drop off your application if done via internet. However, with the latest US/Canada passport guideline and the crazy lineups, don't expect too much of a break.

You have to go in to the office to file your papers. You can then pick up your passport when it's ready or have it mailed to you. It took me 3 hours in line to file the papers last February, and 5 minutes in line to pick it up 2 days later.

I believe you can check the website for estimated wait times at each passport office.
