I'm pretty sure if you were welding with a cellphone in your pocket it would destroy the cellphone. There's a shitload of electricity flying around and that creates some monster electromagnetic interference.

Somebody who actually welds fill us in; weren't you trained to take all electronics out of your pockets before welding?

all the boys at the shop weld with their phones in their pocket... well on their side in the holder... they say it wont explode but if the battery's nickel plate is leaking, it could ignite and maybe blow up... but that its very unlikely

I get to weld tomorrow, Ill keep my cell phone in my pocket... and If I blow up I wont post... haha!

I would think exploding laptops would be more dangerous, but they haven't had any victims thus far. Most just burn up - and even if they were to explode, I can't think they would put a whole through anybody.
