Lol to say England doesn't have real talent is a bit silly. What they don't have is coaching, poise, and organization.

Sounds like we might poach José Mourinho to coach the national side in the future. That'd address a lot of those issues in a big way.

If you say "real talent vs publicity" it implies a lack of real talent on the "publicity" end.

"real talent vs real talent" doesn't make much sense, maybe you should have gone with "performance vs hype"

Meanwhile, when you say "they" who do you mean? I don't think the team or coaches blow anything out of proportion; if anything they try and quell the hype.. and the media as often as not is sarcastic about our supposed chances (of course, I did read the Guardian almost exclusively..) It's the ridiculous expectations of the fans that become an anchor weighing us down. The populous over there is bonkers... their motto is "England expects"..

I figure if we hoped instead of expecting (which becomes demanding), the team would have a lot more poise in big games. Instead they play with their hands around their necks.

yeah, well from the two teams.. knowing portugal is going to kill turkey, might as well cheer for portugal, it doesnt get you beaten up and you also please Jim.

I actually became a fan of France in World Cup 2006 after England got knocked out (much to my surprise..)

For one thing, they raised their game to a masterful level, and were great to watch, esp players like Zidane and Ribery. For another thing, they knocked out Brazil, which put an end to all the annoying samba lines marching around Trafalgar Square. And then they beat Portugal, which lead to this:

FYI Euro fans.. just discovered that on some days TSN has live games and Sportsnet has replays.. and on other days it's the other way around.

Go figure. TSN is just finishing with Czech vs Swiss right now, and will have Portugal vs Turkey just before noon. Which means Jim is right, as usual.

In other news, Euro without England is like eggs Benny without hollandaise. :(
