Not saying it wasn't avoidable, but it wasn't like this guy was speeding and driving like a maniac.
Fucked up for everyone involved...

That's awful. I feel for everyone involved. Too often we automatically blame the driver, but in a situation where the crosswalk is not well marked nor well lit, it's raining, etc. it's really just bad luck. A distant (idiot) cousin of mine decided to commit suicide by stepping in front of a moving vehicle a few years back. The driver was a 17 year-old who had just gotten his N - talk about traumatized. =\
I hate crossing the street at crosswalks that don't have flashing lights. I almost NEVER have to do this because I drive and only cross at traffic lights walking to/from work, but I'm still always cautious. Drivers in Miami are fucking crazy and I've nearly been hit at traffic lights because
they weren't paying attention. I think both drivers and pedestrians need to be more aware of their surroundings and proceed with caution!
My bf's best friend was an EMT in Florida for a year before going back to med school. He's one of those super caring people with a huge heart and an equally huge conscience - he said although he is passionate about helping people, he couldn't deal with the burden of the tragedies he had to respond to. I think being a GP will suit his personality a lot better.
