saw some chick get hit by a car tonight
she was crossing a marked crosswalk, and some guy going around 60 just hit her without even hitting the brakes, since he didn't see her at all... at the same crosswalk a 3 year old got hit and almost died 4 years ago..
There is barely any lighting on that intersection or over that crosswalk, and there is no button to press to use the crosswalk or to warn drivers that someones crossing the road. We gave her a pillow from my trunk to put under her head but within seconds it was covered in blood... internal bleeding, broken leg, cracked skull... you'd think they would have better lighting on such a busy road.. ambulance took about 15 minutes to get there... props to paramedics.... they have to see some really fucked up shit every day |

That's really fucked up. Where is this intersection?
Truly hope this woman is okay.... also that you have some people other than the message board to talk to about this. By your description, it sounds like a pretty shocking thing to have witnessed. |

Shame on the city of Coquitlam for not putting in better lighting on that intersection, or at least a pedestrian controlled traffic light... i was talking to the other people that were helping her, and they were all furious because they were residents of the area and said many people have been hit by cars at that intersection. but honestly... i have so much respect for paramedics.. imagine the shit they must see every day.. dealing with death and injury every day has to take a massive toll on them.. the blood curling screams coming from the girl gave me chills |

i remember hearing the drivers, at the towing company i dispatched for, talking about picking up bad auto wrecks, and seeing a car seat and then finding what was left of the child under the seat. they said it was so extremely traumatizing, some needed counselling from shit like that.

Not saying it wasn't avoidable, but it wasn't like this guy was speeding and driving like a maniac. Fucked up for everyone involved... |

such an honourable job I'd like to donate some money to them for christmas... any charities that collect money on behalf of bc paramedics? |

Not an easy job at all. The fire department is usually the first to respond to any call, I know they do annual boot drives every year and you could look into that. Not entirely sure about paramedics though. |

just watching the videos gives me a feeling that i never want to experience again, but being there? trying to save lives you know can't be saved? i wonder what the suicide rate is with them. |

imagine how hard it is for them, in instances where they have to use the jaws of life to free injured people... or like when that mother and her 4 kids were killed up in northern bc the other week... i'm sure they had the task of dealing with it, and having to open the car up etc... man... the more i think about it, the more i think they are under-appreciated |

Just working in the entry levels of emergency response, I know first hand what you guys are talking about. I still want to work towards being a paramedic (it's not that far off) but the easy part is the education. The hard part is handling what it puts you through.
A man almost lost his leg on my shift because of frostbite. By the time I noticed it in the mess hall while we were eating because he kept raising his pant leg to scratch it, it was black. I addressed it accordingly and drove him 3 hours back to town and the last thing I was told as I discharged him from my care was that he might lose his leg. Even though I couldn't have done anything, it was still a heavy load to absorb. I can't imagine what my first real emergency will be like. |
