Rawb, is this seriously that difficult of a concept to grasp? You own downtown and work downtown, that's lovely, I am very happy for you. What I think is pathetic is your need to come onto a raver web site everyday and make a big deal about where you live and how where everyone else chooses to live is whatever stereotype you think will get a laugh from your fellow sheep. I find it even more sad for someone like ninja boy, who aparently owns nothing, bragging about the same thing. If someone wants to rent downtown for a few years and soak up that life, then do it, been there and done that myself. However I didnt notice anything different about myself when i lived there, upon handing over my rent I wasn't given any special badge or cool gadgets.
It's the absolute absurdity of the belief that downtown is better, at any cost, that gets me.
You act like living downtown is some instaclass wonder, all the while acting like an ass about it. It all seems incredibly classless to me.
I live in Maple Ridge because I am on the way to establishing a succesful career here. My family is here. It's absolutly beautiful, with many lakes, rivers, mountains. It's simple put, a wonderful place to live. It's the place for me, and that's why people live where they do.

One of my best friends and her hubby bought a place in Maple Ridge last summer. I went to visit one day - from Robson & Burrard (not in traffic) it took me 70 minutes. She works at Park Royal and her commute is regularly 1.5-2 hours EACH WAY. Not exactly worth it IMO, but they have a 4 year-old and another baby on the way and it was the only area that they could afford to buy a nice place in.

I think the point they were trying to make is not that they're "better" but rather that Maple Ridge isn't all you crack it up to be. And saying that it's nicer than North/West Van, commmmmme on!

apples and oranges. the two are completely different experiences and impossible to say one is absolutly better then the other.

i love the valley. and i love downtown. both options makes sense for the people that choose them. its impossible to say one is completely better then the other...that really comes off as severly closed minded and 'bubbled'.

there just different. the valley has amazing beauty,clean air wide open spaces rivers lakes wonderful parks great houseing peace and quiet.

downtown has fast pace,nitelife,excitment,convience arts and entertainment ect. ect.

both options are good for what each person chooses. chris hits the nail right on the head about the convenience of renting and benefits of renting downtown and not being financially locked down. swiftbeats hits the nail right on the head about the benefits and beauty of the valley and being financially locked down.

both you guys are right....and ive sent karma out to both sides, but i do have to say...the 'downtown' side did start slinging mud first(as always) even though the stereotypes rawb used are reeking of halftruths and humor.
