A lot of hospitals employ ESNs (employed student nurses) who are in their third and fourth year of university. You get paid $21/hour I believe. It's a pretty sweet deal because you can work a few 12 hour shifts a month and get some pretty good on the job learning depending on where you're working.

So you'll really only be super poor for your first two years.

If you really want, you can try and apply for a PCA (patient care attendant or nursing assistant) job after your first year of nursing. I think they get paid $19/hour.
