The problem with it being that these types of communes tend to be rather oppresive to the women. Ever seen Big Love?

I dunno what I think about polygamy. Just seems like there's too much to keep track of. There are enough emotions flying around in a two-person relationship. This just compounds the problem.

In a two-person relationship there's really only 2 different sets of emotions you need to worry about aside from your own
- Theirs
- The way you two interact.

Add in a third, and it starts to go up:
- Wifey 1
- Wifey 2
- You + Wifey 1 interacting
- You + Wifey 2 interacting
- Wifey 1 + Wifey 2 interacting
- All three of you together

A fourth and it goes up by another factorial level. So that's 24. A fifth and you get 120 different permutations. Can you really keep track of that kind of a family, especially when sexual energies are involved between all those relationships?

Only way it really works is if there's a definitive patriarch, and that generally leads itself to all the women being treated like shite

i think there are alot more succesful relationships such as these than most people realize. i just think that they arent talked about in the open because of societies negative views on the subject

There's no such thing as legally binding polygamists in North America, considering polygamy is still illegal.

It's everything up to the legal part that they practice at these compounds. They hide under their community though to get away with it.

You don't seem to understand the concept of cult mentality.

First off, at age 14 you may not understand the world well enough to know what you want.

Secondly, cults generaly prey on young people's fear of the world in order to convince them that their way of life is the only way they will be happy.

i just assumed that they knew what they were doing. but that is true, about not really knowing better.

but yes, i think cults are bad. yes, i think they should all be shut down and the people who running it get tarred and feathered. being brainwashed by someone you trust is a rotten thing to do. And thinking you have no way out is scary as heck. There should definitely be consequences.

Just like people exploit the fact if they marry outside of the country, their spouse can come to canada. instead of making it illegal to marry outside of the country, they have implemented various laws and regulations to ensure your not just marrying for the wrong reasons. But they have allowed the right to marry outside of the country, because thats your given right! just like same sex marriages. etc etc
