we saw the smoke billowing out of harbor center from our office this morning before the outage, and yet... our lights remain on... =/

that was the generator running, and then overheating.

It says the outage is only affecting about 7500 peeps. I wouldn't call that huge.

The city of Vancouver has more than 600000 people.

Not even 1,5% is in the dark...

if you hover over the arrows, it says the time that the power went out, and the time of expected restoral - if of course there is anything to report.

its affecting a major swath of the vancouver business district, including the two carrier hotels that all the telcos/networks have.

so yeah, its affecting more than 7500 people. most of downtown doesnt have traffic lights.

not really. 4 way stop procedure on major intersections = a lot of anger.
theres no crossing signals either so people are just walking out when they feel its safe, complicating matters.

lots of people on the streets because they were sent home from work.

It's mainly around the Harbour center area. BUT... Our building across from Harbour Center is ok so we have to keep working. Took a walk around, it was chaotic out there. BC hydro and cops had the block in front of the old Marble Arch blocked off on Richards as they went into the Manholes.

yeah I'm even scared to walk home. I've had to walk through Burrard + Davie a few times when the lights were out..NOBODY knows how to four way stop in this city. it's scary stuff!

I hope it gets fixed before I have to leave at 5. The last time the power went out at Burrard and Davie and it affected the entire traffic grid due to all the one way streets in the Downtown Core. I live on Commercial Dr. and it took me literally 45min to get home. 35 mins of that was trying to get out of the core.
