compression file converter

any recommendations for a free program to convert .aac and .flac files to mp3?

I USE FOOBAR2000 AS A PLAYER AND IT HAS CONVERSION FOR FILES IN ITS RIGHT CLICK MENU l

Unsure about .aac, but you can always download The FLAC software and use that to decode to .wav, then use whatever mp3 encoder you may have (iTunes does it, or you can download a program that LAME uses... just check the Windows links).

Otherwise, yeah, what rawb said.

Footnote: Are the .aac files lossless? If not, you're going to be doing what is known as "transcoding" and it generally means that you'll be losing more sound quality than if you were just going to encode straight off the disc...

there is a setting in itunes to turn everything into mp3 (or any format) when you import it into your library.

i have one at home that converts all formats from one to another (flac included). its the king of audio conversions, but unfortunately i cant remember the name so u lose

go to advanced edit, and hit the import tab

make sure you don't have variable bit rate encoding selected, throw it on 320 or 256kbps and it should sound as good as any LAME encoder out there for just about anybody minus the hardcore audiophiles
