I love people who complain about the lack of real choice or difference in Canada in terms of voting.

if you really want to understand lack of choice, move to north Korea.

you could be worse off.

Frankly I like the options that Canada has. We actually have a left wing.

And just to countermand your point, myra, check out Sweden for an example of an effective democracy that does it better than us.

Just because there are worse places in the world doesn't mean we can't improve.

My right to complain is protected by the Charter, so eff off with your "people who don't vote have no right" BS.

If I choose not to vote, it's a conscious decision based on the idea that I don't think any one particular representative is any better than the others. I don't see how that undercuts my right to express my opinions.

I guess the reason I find not voting so silly is because I consider the individuals in the past who have fought so hard to give us this right. Voting gives us the power to make change and strive towards what we think is best for ourselves and our society, people have not always had that right.To be given this power, and then throw it away just makes no sense to me. In life, If I have an opinion or problem I speak up, I don't stay quiet because I know it won't get me anywhere. To me, not voting is the same sort of thing. If you like the way our current society is, you should vote to keep it that way. IF you don't you should vote to try to change it. I just do not understand how you can be impartial or apathetic to something as important as the governance and running of society. It affects EVERYONE in some way or another and to just sit there and do nothing seems just absurd.

After all, when the government figures out that they had 20% voter turnout they might come to the conclusion that a lot of people's views are not being represented by any party.

I don't see the coservatives jumping to privatize health care or any of our crown corporations, and welfare is far too easy to aquire. If you're jobless or homeless in Canada and don't fall in to one of these categories A. Born with a serious disability B. A refugee who is here illegally and can;t find cash work you are a complete and utter loser not worthy of any hand outs. We have a serious worker shortage, we are importing international workers as fast as we can process the app's. Very few should be able to qualify for welfare. Take for instance the maritimes, work for 4 months, collect EI for the other 8. What a joke.

-what about if your a single mother that can't work because she has to stay home with her kids, and if she put them in daycare it would average to be more than staying at home?

-what about if you were sexually and physically abused as a child and turned to drugs as a way to eliminate the pain, and then got addicted...because addiction is in your genes and you were predisposed to it at birth?

- what if you became homeless and want to get back on your feet but you have no clean clothes or access to a shower,and all of the shelters around you are full

- what if you don't have a social insurance number

- what if you were born into an underprivileged,minority group of society? what if your whole life you have been told your worthless and can't be successful- you have been outcasted so much that your own self reflection and worth starts to fade

then what?
