Much of that ignorance has been caused by our dependence on technology, which in turn creates more problems and more ignorance which we then solve by creating more technology; all of this directly contributes to why most people rely on other means to accomplish their goals instead of just rolling up their sleeves and doing it themselves.

That being said, I don't think technology is bad... just our ever-growing dependency on it. It should compliment our daily life, not give us an auto-pilot through it. The foundation of North American society is comfort and convenience and it is weakening us.

Speaking of sociology of religion. I took this course at SFU, and had one of the BEST profs ever. He was probably in his mid-seventies and was from Oxford. He had a thick Brit accent and had the best sarcastic humour and cynical humour. He was also very modest and very intelligent. Attractiveness is timeless when it comes in the form of intelligence..

I don't know about technology though. I sometimes think that I'd be better able to deal with physical society if I didn't have this virtual society to escape to.

Technology is tools. What people do with those tools is more important than what they are.
