WTF, over?!

Let me get this straight:
Murdoch is upset that his empire is losing money due to loss of advertisers due to the loss of readers/viewers when the stuff is FREE for viewing.

BUT, he figgers that by CHARGING people to view the same crap that they've shunned, people will want to come back in droves, making him more rich, again.

He says other media will quickly follow (ie: BBC).

I don't see how.

If he starts charging, everyone will tune in elsewhere for free, raising traffic, thereby making that media more money in the advertising that Murdoch so desperately wants back.

Am I missing something? Did I read something wrong in the article?

Funny thing is that he's losing advertisers not because of declining ratings, but because the advertisers are starting to object to the content his pundits are pushing forward.

Can't say I blame them. When a bunch of white male pundits start accusing your mixed-race president of being racist and hating white people (despite his mother being white) then you have to expect some retribution.

Sadly crazy crying Glen Beck has been doing this for awhile now and he boosted his ratings quite a bit like O'reilly. Hopefully this pressure will do something, it's ridiculous the sorts of things they say over at FOX news on a daily basis.

^ It's true, but what's happening now is that there's starting all kinds of boycotts and letter-writing campaigns for companies that pay for advertising on FOX. About time this happened. At least Howard Beale had an element of truth to his lunatic-style ravings.

What Murdoch is failing to consider in this instance is that a lot of his online readership is actually from people who are incensed at the poor "reporting". Making the content pay-only is going to lose a fairly sizable chunk of that readership, since those people sure as hell aren't going to pay for it.
