I watch hockey cause well i played it for quite sometime. Its a fast and speedy paced game with finess and emphasis on physical play.
Its played with 5-5,5-4,-5-3,4-4. Leaving more room to move around on the ice, as opposed to soccer/football having 11 men on th field. I find soccer players are skilled and all but in terms of toughness a hockey player would most likely work someone in a soccer uniform -> ON OR OFF THE ICE!!

How does getting hurt prove he's tough? Maybe he cried like a girl aftewards.
I love hockey because when everything comes together it's one of the most free-wheeling, fast-tempo, rugged and altogether thrilling sports around. Is there a sport out there like it? Soccer, as rawb says, doesn't have the toughness. Football and Baseball lack the flow.. Hoops has flow (until the final minute, foul foul foul) but not quite the toughness. I'd say the only team sport that comes close (off the top of my head) is rugby. Which I also love. I remember watching the Canucks with my Dad in the mid 80s.. his all too common refrain of "YOU CAN'T LEAVE MESSIER OPEN LIKE THAT, ARRRGH$@*&".. I remember the first time I realized how emotionally invested I was in the game, when Joel Otto's skate kept us from a gigantic first round upset in the 7th game against Calgary... and I remember our revenge in 94, and how damn close we came. It's a great time for hockey in Vancouver right now, and I'm living it up as best I can. Had playoff tickets for the first time ever last year, and damn did I see the best (and worst) of what hockey has to offer. Viva l'hockey!

i can understand why brett hull plays for the US... he was shafted with no invite to the Canadian camp and the US asked him since he has dual citizenship... he's just being loyal to the team that asked him to play....... roenick i could care less about.....
either way...... it'll take more than a stupid little list of individuals to turn the greatest league in the world .... GAY

speaking of gay hockey, there's a gay hockey team at UBC that plays every Thursday night. From what I've heard, they always completely kick the asses of the burly straight teams and have great ice antics (some of them are ex figureskaters!) I'd love to go see them play
