why do you watch hockey?

i was listening to The Beat this morning and they said an on ice fighting league is being created because most people only watch hockey for the fights
they said the players will be fighting for a cash prize

fightings one of the main reasons i watch, it gets everyone all fired up and paying attention
but id never pay to see just fighting

any thoughts?

i watch for the gameplay, i'm not into the fights... i know most people are, but it just seems so childish and un-sportsman like... and the fact that they're doing it mostly because the fans want to see it just makes it that much more objectionable.

who the fuck gives a shit why those morons on the beat watch hockey..... i watch it for the strategy, the speed, the finesse and power. It's the worlds greatest game hands down, nothing else comes close.


The whole ppl watch hockey for figthing theory is bullshit and someone who watches hockey for only the fights knows dick all... the fighting is just a bonus....

I think it has it's place, for instance if some one takes a cheap shot at a star player they need to get smacked out.

That's what's good about fighting; for those players who don't care about getting a penalty and take cheap shots hockey uses fighting as a self correcting mechanism.

^point taken, but the fact remains - i don't like seeing it, and i certainly don't watch the game for it. I realize it's not going away, but i don't hafta like it! Ice Fighting sounds like it'd be about as interesting as Slamball or Robot Wars, ie not at all.

The fighting is fun to watch especially when its two heavy weights going at it, but I would have to say that I watch for the gameplay.

i watch hockey because i enjoy seeing the game played, id ont care if its the canucks or some other team ill still watch it. I also like to watch hockey because it gives me another excuse to get durnk and belligerant! :D

Whats the point of the hockey players fighting? They do no harm to eachother! Their faces are already deformed!! They don't have any teeth!! Them fightin' is like them kiddies @ WWF hittin eachother.

Im not that clear... this is what I mean: IF YOURE GONNA FIGHT, DO IT RIGHT, and atleast have one or two pple killed. Im not down to little cat fights, bitches scratchin' eachotha!

Do you think hockey players "cat fight?" I'd wager my life savings that even a small hockey player would rock any soccer player (or whatever you want to call your sport, we call it soccer as we are in North America...) any day on a field and even more easily on ice...

This is a very common mistake but just to set the record straight. "Football" is number one in Europe, not Canada. We are in Canada and Hockey is number one. I like soccer but it's not even close to hockey.

Im quite torn between the 3 ..Basketball,Hockey and Soccer ..hell i even like football ..
Theyre all such good sports ..

Hockey is probaly the most exciting to watch though.
