Feeling Really Lucky Today!

Anyway, this is a really popular area of Whistler's backcountry and at about 1pm I was standing on top of that cornice looking at different spots to drop in... Anyway we went down through that bowl, and hiked back to the base of the Harmony chair. When we were going back up the chair we could see large avalanche debris (large enough to see from about 2-3 km away) and a helicopter was landing in that area. So that is why I feel so lucky today!

Oh and to add to this, that avalanche was about 30 minutes after I was standing on that cornice!

That is pretty damn lucky!! I always think it's fucked up to look back at situations like that and think how that could have been yourself...it's pretty fuckin trippy

hmmm, i would say u are lucky too, the fact that even an avalanche occured is lucky. Were there any signs or warnings stating avalanche zone??? In any case, had u had a snowboard with u, that could have been the snowboarding extravaganza of your life...Yaaaaa-hoooooo!!!!! :smoke1:

I was in the back country, so by default it's an "avalanche Zone." Also that guy who was caught in it is so lucky to be alive. The debris would have been chunks of ice and rock, some as large as a car. That cornice was built up over 40 feet high in the middle...
