MP3 virus??

I read this virus posting and am wondering if anyone else has heard of it.

Set my mp3's to read only? LOL! That might take a long, long time considering the amount I have on hand and I don't want to batch it in case the PC blows up.

Thanks Dave.

I did a batch attribute change before on my system and the system croaked and corrupted the file tables.

With over 200Gb of mp3's on my file servers I want to be a bit more careful.

but at the same time its not... losing music kinda sucks...

but still .......... faaaaawk

I guess the only foolproof way to deal with it is to not listen to trance.

My Snap file servers are Linux based. :c-tard:

I'm just a tard and manage them via Windoze.

I guess I'll just go buy some beer and waste a day doing attribute changes just to be safe.

Yeah and besides, everyone, don't double click on your mp3's to play them.. you should be dragging them in your playlist and such. That way if there really was a virus, the player wouldn't play the file/play garbled shit and no chance of the virus executing

I dont know Winston......i think this is a hoax too!
I tried to look for anything resembing that virus on www.antivirus.com and www.symantec.com and it came up with nothing?!?

yeah. im pretty sure viruses cant be contained within an mp3 file. it has to be an executable file that runs some kind of program to infect your computer. youd have to have an mp3 jukebox that scanned for infected mp3s and installed them itself. i dont think those exsist though.

Even if that worm is legit, your MP3's are safe on a *nix system, according to that alert. It only targets Windows systems.

MP3's are a file format that can not have an attached virus. To date, no one has managed to turn an MP3 into an infected file.

Theoretically, Sariel, this is true.

However, Microsoft programming has led us to be highly skeptical.

Just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it can't be.

Very true... that is why I said that to date, it has not happened. I am sure someone is going to eventually come up with an MP3 virus/worm...
