p.s i think kits or the west end would be the best place to live when your young, but yaletown and coal harbour are dope too....especially coal harbour right by stanely park wiht the view of the north shore.. i think lower lonsdale would be alreadytoo..with the seabus dt is only a short distance away. and lonsdale is going throught alot of construction right now so itll be alot different in a few years. i agree rawb Im moving to hero and denmen. Sure its kinda far away (like a 10 minute walk) but i love downtown and walking downtown is fantastic in itself. everything I want is there and I dont have to worry about getting drunk and taking the skytrain home. 5 mins from the beach tna in the summer! |

I lived in White Rock, which is a really nice place to be, but unaccessable and boring.
I've lived off of Commercial drive for about 4 years now, I love the area's parks, coffee shops, etc..but I don't like the hippies :( I definitely want to live in the West End next, because it is just so close to everything and it's a plus to be so close to the beach and seawall in the summer.. Ultimately, the nicest area in downtown to me is Coal Harbour, it's really got the class of yaletown, except it's a lot quieter (and there are nicer views, etc.) I'm going to have to move soon I think because my roommate is going back to live in southeast asia, I think my next move will be downtown for sure. |

a 1-bedroom apartment in kits would be around $750. you can get cheaper shared accomodation or 2-bedrooms.
i'm also a big fan of d/t, but am absolutely in love with my current location. i walk one minute to macdonald, and there's 2 buses going d/t, like a 15 minute ride. walk two minutes up to broadway, and there's a zillion buses going every which way. the night bus (either from ubc or from dt) stops right there. within 5 minutes is a safeway, two liquor stores, uncountable produce/smaller markets, the library, bars, restaurants, video stores, shoppers drug mart, a movie theater, a tanning place, a medical clinic, NATS PIZZA, hair places, dollar stores, fast food places, 4 starbucks', bike stores, outdoor stores, a gym, film places, gift places, clothing stores, and anything else you could possibly need. kits beach is either a 12-15 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride. there are parks, tennis courts, ... everything. too bad my current place is a hell hole, and i'm moving further away, but i'm staying close enough. :D |

North Van. It just doesn't get any better. Mountains, oceans, three ski areas, the best mountain biking in the world, hiking, climbing, good food...Hell, I ride my bike 5 days a week to work, it takes me 25 minutes each way, faster than driving, faster than the seabus and cheaper than both. I moved away, but I had to come back, I just love it here :)

honestly, after months and months of apartment searching, looking through the ads and what's out there, dt isn't that much more expensive than certain areas in kits/south granville, etc. i guess it's moreso true if you're living alone in a one bedroom...shared accomodations tend to be a bit cheaper. but the point that i'm making is that dt isn't necessarily THAT much more expensive, especially if you do a bit of hunting.
the only reason why i would pick south granville over dt would be the fact that it's a bit removed from the hustle bustle of the core...although sometimes that's nice, esp in the summer. and the small streets in the west end aren't chaotic at all. my building is fairly quiet and there isn't much noise from the street at all. i just mostly love that it's so close to the sea wall and beach right now. it's been SO gorgeous outside. it's nice to be in the middle of all of that. another area that i would consider is down in false creek. i really love granville island and the surrounding area. i checked out a wicked townhouse down there in march, but unfortunately the girls living there decided to stay. i guess anywhere near the water is pretty nice! i HATE yaletown though. way too yuppie...it gets annoying as hell being around that all the time after a short while. |
