Best area to live in the lower mainland!
I've lived in the same area (well hell, the same house!) my entire life until I moved to Montreal last year for school. Now I'm back, and I've moved out on my own into the west end. I love this area...it's close to the core of downtown, yet it's enough of it's own bubble that I am able to feel balanced. Close to the beach and with this kinda weather already this year, it's so nice! It's not too concrete...there are trees around and the buildings are quaint. Plus it's just nice to not have to worry about catching the skytrain or having to drive after a night out clubbing. Just pay a few bucks to cab home or have a drunken half hour trek.
I have to move out July, and although I'm planning to stay in the west end, I'd like to hear some input as to areas in the lower mainland that you've lived in and loved and what made that experience so great. I'm going to be working downtown and going to school in Van, so living out in the mad burbs like Maple Ridge or White Rock is not feasible, but places like South Granville, the Drive, Cambie, other areas of dt, Oak, Kits, etc. |

I grew up in kits and think it's the most beatiful place. I live near Macdonald and 3rd and it's 2 blocks from the beach, i can walk down to the beach in two minutes and smoke fatties. From my roof i can watch the fireworks, the late night bus runs right past my house, and all the bars on broadway are walking distance. but everywhere in the lower mainland is pretty amazing, once u travel around the world u realize how amazing our city is.

It was so easy to travel by bus or hitch a ride from peeps when I was in van... not only am I in north van but the far corner in deep cove... I find even some ppl in north van have a hard time reconizing the home area of Ben Aflect Pfffffffffffffff Last edited by Ree Fresh; Apr 30, 04 at 12:47 PM. |

I'm in the West End as well, and out of the three general areas I've lived in during my 10 years in Vancouver(West End, East Van, and Burnaby/Edmonds area), this is by far the best. Kits holds appeal to me as well, pluses of being a little more removed and thus quieter, minuses of not being as close to things like stores, restaurants, bars, etc, and a little more difficult for friends to access by transit (I'm only about 12 minute walk from Skytrain). Wouldn't mmove, tho, only cuz in late summer/early fall my workplace will be downtown about 15 minute walk away - I wouldn't want to trade that for the hassle and expense of commuting.

im lucky enought to have lived in 3 great areas on my own, nv, kerrisdale, and downtown.
all fronting aside, if you're young and can afford it, live downtown once in your life. across the bridge or east van pales in comparison. everything you want is RIGHT THERE when you're here. |
