Who're you voting for in the upcoming election?
Well with elections Canada just a few months away, and the campaigns already underway, have you decided your vote?
They say it may the first minority government in 20 years. As for me, I think Jack Layton with his pro-healthcare , and pro-earth platform has won my vote ( www.ndp.ca ) . Plus his vocal opinion to legalize marijuana didn't hurt either ;) PS: for all the yanks online ... express your vote as well ( as long as it's anti-bush! ) |

I'm still undecided...I think. I'm still reading up on a lot of things. Because I just moved, I can't just vote for the MP currently in place who has done a fantastic job.
Oh, and I really hate people who vote for a party simply because they're the 'lesser of two evils'..it doesn't hurt to look into what a party actually represents and promises before making a vote, but maybe that's just me. |

It's not PC anymore, at all. I'd almost consider a conservative vote, but this whole alliance with the reform/canadian alliance makes me feel uneasy. Stephen Harper is no Colin Mackay or Joe Clarke. Infact, Mr Harper scares me slightly less than Mr. Day did :( |

glen cambell? isnt he the ndp leader who was investigated..i think you mean gordon cambell and if you do then you're talking about a different election, because gorodo runs at a provincial level not federal..also theres a big difference between the b.c liberal party and the federal liberals, federal liberials arent as hardass. |

Election time is always tough for me.... I try to do as much research on each party before I make a concrete decision. I also try to make sure that I don't just forget past indiscretions made by these parties.
I mean I totally understand the 'lesser of two evils' argument but I think the fact is that every party is going to have a thing or two that you may not agree with. As of right now I'm undecided on where I stand. As the campaign trail rolls on I'll form my opinion. The fact is that if you don't vote you can't complain so make sure you pay attention and vote for the person who best represents your beliefs. That being said, even if I did have my mind made up I probably wouldn't discuss it. I've found in the past that things like politics and religion can cause serious arguments and at times are better left alone. My political decision is mine alone and in the end it doesn't matter who I vote for.... what matters is who's in power at the end of the whole process whether I voted for him or not. |

When it comes to federal elections I mostly look at loyalty towards the western side of canada or should I say pacific side. Im so sick of everything revolving around ottawa/toronto/montreal/quebec. BC has so much potential and I notice where either taken advange of by the east or taken for granted :/
For the federal "liberal" party I still have some fiath in... but the pendulum could swing a bit to the other side... therfore Im very intrested in what the ndp/green/or any idependents have to say or plan to do. Last edited by Ree Fresh; May 26, 04 at 01:58 AM. |

anyway with regards to federal politics for me the liberal party is the only real option. i really like paul martin even tho he has about as much charisma of a cardboard cut out. i respect him for his work as a finance minister in finally balancing the budget and making the hard decisions necessary to bring canada's finances in order, i feel that he is largely responsible for much of the fairly good economic times we have had. the fact that he has had alot of personal success in buisness is an assest as far as im concerned. also his stance on other important issuses almost mirror mine exactly, the importance he places on the provision of high levels of public services(within a fiscially responsible frameork) his beleif in equal rights for gays and minorities, as well as support for new immigrants as they adapt to canadian society their all values that i hold as well. as for the two others, well, the platform that jack layton's ndp party puts forward makes me feel all warm and tingly inside as i beleive that he has the most honest of intentions. tho he lacks a pro buisness attitude which is essential to anyone who wants to earn my vote, also i doubt he'll be able to deliever on his grandiose feel good policies while remianing fiscially responsible. im far more assured of a liberal government's competancy in ensuring good governmance then that of a NDP government. As for harper im actually really really really scared of this guy and his policies, to me he's a bush lite, which really isnt somehting we need right now. |
