Not going too far back, a fine example is Germany after the world war. Their money was not worth shit and the country was in ruins. Im sure that if all the civillians decided to blow themselves up, the country would not be a first world country today.
The self bombarment, which you mentioned on your first post, is without a doubt a result of pressure which is pressed on the people - however, i believe that it is a very closed minded action to put immediate end to one's (but usually more) misery.
why? im not gonna get into that.

Remember how not so long ago the Resistance, ....oh sorry I mean Terrorists, in Iraq had captured a few US troops and had them on Aljazzera and bush stood up and said how they had better be treated properly as we are treating their prisoners properly or they will be tried as war criminals.
