The Blood Moon (Full moon) rises this year on Wednesday, Oct. 27th. At first it will seem pale and cold, as usual. And then ... blood red.

It's a lunar eclipse. Beginning at 9:14 p.m. EDT (6:14 p.m. PDT), the moon will glide through Earth's shadow for more than three hours. Observers on every continent except Australia can see the event: The pale-white moon will turn pumpkin orange as it plunges into shadow, becoming eerie red during totality.

AND IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

Interesting Fact: The Full Moon in October is always called the Blood Moon. That it's a lunar eclipse, and thus blood red, is just a coincidence.

ummmm, NO, it's NOT a coincidence. it's called the blood moon because of nights like tonight, they just keep calling it blood moon even on years where it doesn't turn red.

There are some odd rules about pushing around the names of moons in certain years depending on the ammount of full moons in the year. Niko (Tim) has put up an insanly accurate lunar/equinox calendar online, but I can not for the life of me find or remember the URL....
