I think just ASKING to be a mod hurts you right there, you shouldnt care if your one or not, mod's are members who give as much as they can to the site, and don't care what their title is.

true enough.. but also.. some people that aren't qualified enough maybe rewarded to me a mod. Though.. it's not exactly a reward.. you just have more privilages then the odinary member.

i agree, i just think there are some people a little too keen on being a moderator for the status, so i would be wary about anyone who asks enthusiasticly.

I dunno why... But if your gonna be a mod.. theres obviously gonna be some responsiblities to go with it.. but that part is usualy always over looked. And usualy frpom what I see on any board is that the mods don't do their jobs.. they just sit there with the title. If your gonna be a mod, they should atleast earn the title in an acceptible manner. Well that's atleast what I think. :)

Why the hell do so many people wanna be moderators?? It sounds like they're making it the center of their world, which to me, just seems lame and pathetic. This is an internet website for christs sake... do you think you get some kind of power out of this? Please. Doesn't anybody work or go to school (except for during Christmas holidays) or, ya know, have a LIFE??

I just don't get this whole mod obsession *shakes head*. It doesn't make you kewler or more special than anyone else, it just suggests that you're more of a computer nerd than anyone else. Turn the computer off, go out, and do something more productive with yourselves. Sheesh!

seeings how your computer your using was made by a 'computer nerd', the internet maintained by them, this website created and run by them, and they're who you turn to if something goes wrong, you may wanna think if it's even an offensive term anymore.

without computer nerds you would have no alias, you would spell it 'cool' not 'kewl', you would never think of saying *shakes head* in asteriks in a written document, the tildes around your name would be nonexistant... etc etc etc

if you're going to start appropriating parts of a culture, perhaps you should not use that culture as an insult to others.

First off I don't think that having a mod status makes u any cooler than the rest of the members and secondly, I don't think people want to be mods so they can appear cool. Mods have a responsibilty of helping keep the boards clean and making sure posts are where they should be. In other words it requires work.

Yo werdyboy, why don't you calm down and not get so defensive about things? By "computer nerd", I mean people who stay at home all day, play around on F&K, XTCity, and whatever else there is out there now, and think that they have some kind of special status cuz they're a moderator.

As far as "appropriating parts of a culture" goes, I've been saying and spelling things the way I do before I even had internet, so I can attribute much of my current lingo to myself.

No need to get in such a huff... hmm, sounds like someone got teased in school for liking computers a lot.

DJ-Form, I agree that being a mod requires actual work and sound judgement, though it would be silly to think that some of them don't get a power kick out it too, now wouldn't it?

Just like in any job or real life matter....to be able to do what is expected from ur boss or in this situation we can call it your trainer,....you are gonna need training!!!! so im saying be happy to be taught and then learn.. and u will too become a trainer to one such us i.....who needs to be trained!!!

What's everyone so excited about? If being a moderator on some little local web-board is so important to someone- I'd advise that they get out a little more.

Everytime I come on these boards I'm shocked by what a perverse little world they encompass- There is life outside of F&K and LX.

and shockingly, there's this huge world out there too that doesnt involve raves, turntables, promoters, parties, drugs, and boards on which to discuss them.

Really, having all sorts of criteria for being moderators is stupid- The guys who run the show here can do whatever they want. If Form's kid sister decides to get all excited on the net, he could make her a moderator if he wanted- this is not a democracy- the big cheese types can do what they want.
