There has been talk of such a thing but the chances of us actually seeing it happen are slim to none. I can give you a brief explanation of what is supposed to happen... forgive me though I'm not certain on every last detail.

After one year w/o operation the league and its owners can claim bankruptcy and disband the league. With the league no longer in existence the NHLPA would also no longer exist. You can't have a union for a non-existent league. At this point the owners get back together and re-form a new league with new rules (most likely including a salary cap) but all the same teams. The BIGGEST downfall of this would be the fact that all eligible players would have to be re-drafted in a fantasy league style. Yes, we'd still have the Canucks but the make-up of the team would be entirely different.

Chances are this process would also lose some teams as some owners might bail at this point. I do believe there is some sort of time period that the owners would have to wait through between the disbanding of one league and the start of another. From what I understand, while this is a technical possibilty, the chances of it happening are less that one percent due to the sheer difficulty of it. Can you imagine the paperwork alone? Let alone the lawyers fees..... WOW.

I might also be a little off on this by my understanding is that it would be much more BC Liberal style. At a given point where the negotiations are a complete impasse the league can basically tear up the contracts of every player and impose a new collective bargaining agreement. At this point the teams would all still exist and every player would be a free agent. There would definitely be a salary cap.

I highly doubt they'll get scabs in to play for the NHL. You have to wonder if the fans would show up to watch a bunch of players that they didn't know too.

I'm sure this is all just a stupid rumour. It doesn't sound right no NHL in Canada, ya I doubt that. I thought it will be back next year. I don't really like Hockey and I never watch it unless its the playoffs. The only team I like is the Canucks. PS2 NHL games are fun to play though, I think watching it on tv is kinda boring.

Now, the WWE is where its at, or the new Rebel Billionair show on Fox. Taking the NHL away from Canadians is like taking a Polish man's vodka, bad things happen, lol.

Agreed! I stoped following the NHL closely just over 5 years ago. You have a local WHL team you know... SUPPORT IT. They play better hockey.

Ya so do I. I mean next year, if they don't get all this bullcrap *c.b.a*/salary disputes etc... than there is no real point to playing seeing as its just gonna end up being the same thing. Its just a game of cat and mouse, with the NHL and NHLPA playing games.

They need to work out the kinks, and revunue problems before they should think about starting another season.

Next season can happen in many ways./
