A new poll suggestes that 52% of the people are in favor of Abbas. An opinion like this, only weeks earlier would have been regarded as heresy. With the death of Arafat, people can finally say what they truely believe.

It is good news for Israel, deffinately. Palestine?...they may face problems in the Arab world for their decision, who knows? This peace idea has never gone over well with them. But yes, for 52% of Palestinians it is excellent news. I just hope that they do not start up in civil war or something. It is a very new subject. I am skeptical, I know, but it is within reason.

I really REALLY hate to say it, but lou_bell's got a point here... the exptected winner of the next election has a capmaign that's based off of a path to peace, and the end of suicide bombing & miltary raids is good news for both sides. Arafat came to power on a platform of uprising and violence towards Isreal. I'm not saying that Isreal is in the right in that violence, or that Palestine is in the right, I'm just saying it's good news that so much of palestine is supporting a peace process and that the election looks like it will help towards peace and not further war.

before you attack lou_belle, you have to realize that people of the Jewish faith by and large are NOT viewed favorably in the Arab world. This isn't some vast generalization, this is a FACT. There are wars that go back probably even farther than history records to this fact. Make no mistake, a Palestinian state that supports peace with the Jewish state of Isreal will probably face some semblace of political backlash from the surrounding Islamic & Arab countries.

I'm not implying in anyway that Arabs are "hate-filled" I'm just pointing out that an obvious point was made, and that's not reason to automatically denouce what was posted.

I was ready to get in here and flame away, but really, this IS news of a possible peace in the one of the most war-torn placed on the planet, and THAT, if nothing else should be cause for celebration. By both sides.

The thing is man, what you present here is the viewpoint that the Arab world has a deep, ingrained hatred of their Israeli neighbors. Only someone with a very biased viewpoint would attempt to argue this. When the person you're ostensibly defending presents her side of things, she comes off sounding like the Arab world's hatred is genetic and/or tantamount to their very being, and therefore impossible to mitigate, and that Israel is some bastion of tolerance and good deeds without just as much ingrained hatred and mistrust to cope with.

Huh? Its comments and veiws like this that dont make peace any easyer. With a situation like Israel you cant really have a bad guy and good guy. All the diffrent groups need to be given the same respect and treating. Thats why we have so much war and firghting down there as some of the groups feel they have been over looked at and miss treated... such as your coment.




The best Idea I heard to make peace there was the UN taking over Isreal and making it a world country. Therefore everyone would have access to it making there no real reason to fight... hopefully.
