mueh, i think a lot of these ooh-la-la brands (especially LV) have lost a lot of their appeal just 'cause there are so many fake ones out there. when i see a girl walking down the street with an LV bag now, it's not much of a status symbol, it's more like "yeah, that one's probably fake too..."

maybe you'd prefer to talk about your nails/hair/clothes. I personally am a fan substance and am FAR from boring. |

Little Sally just got paid, and she can't wait to blow her earnings at the local mall, on say, a handbag. She buys the said handbag, gets it home and checks the tag which reads: MADE IN CHINA. This prompts Sally to THINK GLOBALLY: "Oh.. made in China.. not made in Canada.. so the profits aren't all staying in the Canadian economy.. and I have no idea what kind of working conditions the makers of this bag underwent, where the materials came from and what kind of environmental damage happened for the creation of my lovely new acessory... but it looks cool and matches my new pink skirt, so it's ALL GOOD." ALL GOOD? yeah. right. Sally is just fooling herself into thinking this is all ok, just to look good (and spend a fortune in doing so). After a few days of wearing the bag, noticing that every Sue, Jane and Mary has the SAME BAG... life is getting pretty boring (homogenized culture), and Sally still wonders from time to time about what "MADE IN CHINA" really means. She decides this bag wasn't a good choice. She'd rather own something more unique, that was made in her own Country with human rights in mind. So she takes the said cursed bag back to the mall, takes a jaunt over to Gastown or Main Street, and ACTS LOCALLY. She buys a beautiful little bag from a shop in her own city, where she meets the designer and learns about the safe and healthy work practices this designer provides for her employees. Sally's friends marvel at the uniqueness of her new fashion addition and everyone's a winner. |

^while doing that, sally has sentenced the people who depend on the few cents a day they make to support themselves and their families to death.
you can pay for something local and be proud that you have a product from canada. or, you can buy the thing you feel like buying and not have to look so hard for a canadian product and be able to provide income for the people who make the product, the ones who package it, the ones who ship it, the one who order the product over here, the ones who receive the products etc etc. i would rather my money go towards helping as many people as possible instead of being stuck up and buying only canadian/local products |

Buy your designer shit, make the rich richer and ensure the poor barely survive, in addition to keeping the local artist from making a living. Just doesn't make sense to me. |

what am i imposing on and degrading developing nations? by giving them a few cents everytime i buy something that's made from their country.
so am i supposed to just support the local artists and make them rich and then have their shit copied world wide? and when that happens, guess what, you'll still have child labourers making the fake products. |
