nyala is soooooo good. i love how they serve the dishes on that flat spongey bread stuff.
to whomever was asking about the jazz place, i'm not sure if this is the one you're referring to because it's in yaletown rather than gastown, but capone's has GREAT food, great music, and great martinis. also in yaletown, glowbal is delish, though it gets too packed with the yaletown crowd on the weekends. |

This place on near the bottom of Davie called Random is good. Intimate, french style cuisine, only open for dinner. It has fair prices too, 12-20 bucks. I know the owner and he's their everyday. An awesome chef;P MMm...the last time I went there I had huge scallops and asparagus in a creamy risotto.....gawd ;)

im with myra here, there are some weak suggestions.
someone suggested 'thai away home' which is average at best. if you want real damn good authentic thai food goto 'simply thai' on hamilton. it is the only 100% thai owned and operated thai restuaraunt in the city. the chef there spent most of her life in thailand studying culinary arts under the chef that cooks for the thai royal family, so you can basically be assured she knows her shit. if you do go, try to bbq duck curry. |

most of these suggestions are mediocre - especially for the sushi.
Best place for sushi in this city bar none is Wabi Sabi - but that's out on 10th Ave near UBC. The grand majority of sushi places in this city are run by people who have never studied the art of sushi and figure to just slap a bunch of raw fish together w/ seaweed and rice. One of my favorite dowtown Japanese restaurants is Guu with Garlic located on Robson st. near Denman. It's not really a sushi place, but rather a Japanese Tapas place that serves the equivilent of Japanese pub food - kind of pricey but incredibly yummy. |

do you mean downtown downtown or burnaby "downtown" :D
d/t d/t= hapa izakaya, guu, macaroni grill, can't think of others right now though I'm there all the time. I always love hapa though, the atmosphere, the presentation of food, and the great price for awesome quality and unique fusions foods, just went there a few days ago with my co-workers, and it seems that they've expanded the place. |

My mom told me Memphis blues is the best bbq ever, haven't been yet. Al Porto's in gas town (Italian) is awesome, the lemon torte for dessert is to die for. Has anyone been to Anton's? I heard good things. Here's a link for Dine out Vancouver: http://www.tourismvancouver.com/dining/dineout.cfm Last edited by kandy kid; Jan 24, 05 at 11:21 PM. |

what about Shiru Bay?
SO GOOD japanese fusion food at it's best and not expensive in the least with a really nice atmosphere or for GOOD sushi try TOJO's on broadway......expensive but amazing WARNING, WAITERS DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH.......... for dessert try Diva at the Met in the Metropolitan Hotel......the best i've ever had i went to Fiction a little while ago, they have the greatest martini i've ever tasted, it's called The Cats Ass good food for ok prices, on Broadway between Arbutus and McDonald for indian try Vij's just off Granville a few blocks south of Broadway and if the wait for a table there is too long then just go next door to Rangoli. i recommend the Portobello Mushroom and Red Bell Pepper curry, one of the best veggie dishes i've ever tasted. their Mango Lassi is the most amazing concotion EVER. for vegetarian cuisine try the Naam. |
