You can get a fantastic bunch of flowers for like $30 or $40 - and don't get them from the "1 doz longstem roses for $12" guy either, 'cause you can totally tell.

me and my friend angela walk by this florist shop in the mall at least once a week to stare at the flowers in the window.. they have these pretty ones like Kenji was talking about... they are pink ... with this glittery stuff on them....oh so pretty. we prolly look like little kids staring at the puppy's in the pets store window.... *sigh*

as for mux up there...you so hit the nail on the head.... with the having them deliverd to work thing... That scores the highest points.

Depends on the flower / occasion / amount of flowers / relationship. As long as you put all the variables together and buy something thoughtful, and like others said, combine them with another gift, you will be golden. You should at least know a little something about a particular type of flower before you give one. Each has its own distinct criteria for particular situations.
