The only time I feel lightshows are hurtin' is when they are forced upon some one........Personnally I enjoy (for the most part) giving and getting lightshows......there are times when I don't want one and will say no to it......but they are fun.....if the ppl giving them are respectful.....ie: if I go up to some one and ask them if they want a lightshow and they say no I'll respect that and move on. If they say yes I'll give them one and maybe hang around and chat for a couple minutes afterwards......but if some one comes up and asks some one if they want one and give them one no matter what or just walks up to some one and starts doing one with out asking than there is no respect in that

and I also agree with you on the fact that not only candy kids give lightshows......I've seen alot of ppl giving/recieving them that are no where near being candy kids

and so the war continues - I must say - Im impressed spencer lol.

I remember I mentioned the word plur and had to defend it to the death lol - as I see you are too lol.

the bottom line - people stereotypicalize everything, the rave scene, drugs, even high school being cool and whats not cool.
everything is stereoyzed - everything is lies.

I believe Meatloaf said it best in his song "Life is a lemon": "What about your school?, It's defective! It's a pack of useless lies"

It's about bloody time someone stood up and did something. I'm fairly new to the raving scene, but all the people that I talk to who have been at it for a while say everything's changed. They complain about missing how it used to be, but I've never heard anyone say they were going to do something about it. I was actually just going to make a thread saying if it's such a damn shame how things are now, stop complaining and do something about it... lucky I read this thread first. I don't personally have an opinion on candy kids and all that stuff, but that's because I haven't come into contact with many. I don't know if I'd ever go down the candy kid road, but to each his own.
Props to Dravengd for starting this thread, and more so, doing something about something you didn't like.
To all those who miss how things were, don't wimp out now. Make the party what you want.
See you out there, and I'm looking forward to some candy.

I agree - I hang out with a lot of old timers and I hear quite a bit on how the scene is changed and how the 'old skoolers' are the way to be and whatnot - and honestly. The scene may have changed - but thats because people got older, new people came in, and things changed. I am 'fairly' new, Ive only been in about a year now - and its us who are going to be the next generations to carry it on.
So who cares if its changed, I'd say its still kickass for us cause we dont know what it was like back then - not to mention, here on the island the vibe is ALWAYS alive, unlike the mainland - the point is though is to accept it for what it is - this scene is the way it is now - and I'd say with true partiers like us it shall live on rocking =).

GO CANDY GO PLUR!

Also like I said before - Ive never been into making candy and giving them out, but if people can get so happy over something so small - I will graciously accept it and promote it for all its worth!

!juss like PLUR its a way of life!

To say "I hate candy kids" would be wrong because some are alot of fun and others are just annoying. The fun ones just have ALOT of energy and are fun to party with because they never get boring, and as said they are supremely nice people. The ones I dont like are the ones that run around ripped saying things that they reallyy dont mean and flashing vibrant colours in your face. However I dont like how all of the "old skoolers" claim that candy ravers are the devil of the scene and turning every party into a flashing pacifier playground. Thats not true at all, I find they dont bother many people and just have their own fun..and they are just part of the party. Finally I will admit that even though I am not one to make my own candy, I do like recieving a spiratic bracelet.

Hey hey! I'm an 'old skooler' and I don't think that of candy kids at all! In fact I used to be one for years! Although those flashing pacifiers do really piss me off, pacifiers sure and flashing lights sure but together they are just all wrong man! hehe :p

Its not just because some of the so called old schoolers got older, and new kids who rave came into the scene. its also because some things changed thart our out of the raving people's hands.

Many of the big production companies now cease to exist. These were companies that threw weekly parties.

and there are many, throw in vancouver and all its by laws and rules, regulations.

Both of these are not in our hands. Are you telling us to go petition at city hall, its been done and without much reaction either.

Yeah true - the city bylaws and regulations change constantly - and never to the benifit of our all-night parties. I wish petitioning would work and get the positive feedback we need - but raves will always be looked down upon by society an unsafe place where people go and do drugs and get into fights.

Other things have changed derasticly - true - but I'd say the scene, specially here on the island, isnt half as bad as it could be. Sure the scene in van is lacking - but on the occasion they can party the hardest around (not as hard as the island though *cough couh*).
I say bring on the love - if someones gonna be nice to me or be a dick to me - I'd much rather them be nice to me - even if they are all hubbered on drugs.

Though I do get, that sometimes the really ripped annoying twinkies can get...well....annoying, thats why I do believe there should be a decent age limit on raves - but thats unrealistic as the point of raves is for everyone who is not of age a place to party (that and everyone else).

But thats why parties are big - lots've room to move around and leave the annoying people lol.

^ you should deliver that last part of your speech to chodaboy the kids seems to try and justify every reason as to why 12 year old kids should be at parties and how doing drugs is such a good thing for society and yourself.

Actually naw those would be wasted words on a fool like him.
