yes, it has an Inuit or Aboriginal spin on it, but that is a huge part of BC. i think the logo represents Canada, and Vancouver especially as a place where many different nationalities and ethnicities live together and work as one.

i personally think it only represents the native part of canada it isn't a symbol that really depicts bc and canada as a whole at least should of had mountains, and a lil native influence not the whole symbol

First Nations groups frustrated with 2010 Games logo

VANCOUVER (CP) - A powerful B.C. native group is frustrated with the logo chosen by the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Grand Chief Edward John of the First Nations Summit said Monday some native leaders were so upset with the logo they were prepared to walk out of an unveiling ceremony Saturday night at GM Place Stadium.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Organizing Committee (VANOC) selected a stylized inukshuk as their Olympic logo. It's a symbol with deep roots in the Inuit culture, a directional marker that signifies safety, hope and friendship.

John said First Nations people have supported the Olympic bid. He questioned why a design by a First Nations artist wasn't used.

Even the First Nations aren't quite happy with it.

I think their reasoning's pretty silly, though.

It just shows how hard it is to please everyone.

Canucks logo, Olympic logo whats next...I thought faulse advertisement was illegal, if you never came to Vancouver you would think we were just all Natives living in igloos or something but then you got here and you would see it is just asians living in high rises. The colors represent a unified nation..and the fact that the symbol reflects a solid, withstanding man that will last for thousands of years, the choice is perfect for an olympic symbol. By far the best symbol I have yet to see...and kids will be attentive to the cartoon like figure. It's pop* mainstream* Get it? Idiots?

I think the symbol is classic. A little cheesy, but thats the type of world we live in right now. The ONLY other image other than a multicolored human figure that I could think of would be a salmon.

The first European-Canadians probably wouldn't have survived without the help and knowledge of the first nations people... In fact, we probably wouldn't be here were it not for their expertise. In that sense, perhaps it does represent us all.

It's kinda cute actually. It may look "effortless" as others have mentioned, but that's what logos are. They are meant to be simple, not complex.

Non native people are represented DAILY in mainstream canadian culture. In fact, when are they NOT represented? Crying "underrepresentation" to me is kind of a ridiculous idea considering that the majority of olympic athletes and organizers themselves will consist of non-native priviliged people. !!

The people who designed the freaking logo themselves are non-native, what MORE do some of you want?



Regardless of whether it was this logo or another, there will ALWAYS, ALWAYS be someone that's going to rag on it.

You've all been paying attention over the last 20 years or so right? They're supposed to suck. That's their job. They're a symbol of the pervasive gayness of the games (fencing, syncrhonized swimming, greco-roman wrestling, ice freaking dancing), as well as a distraction for people to flap their gums about while we wait for something to actually happen, besides miles and miles of roadwork.

The 2010 Vancouver Olympic games logo is perfect. Why? Because it sucks ass.
