hair straightening question!

ok, my hair is relatively straight, with a slight wave at times..

I wanna use a flat iron to give it that extra sleek look.

my question is: if my hair is relatively straight to begin with, does it really make a difference if I use a 'cheap' flat iron, as opposed to the higher end ones?

and what's the difference between a cheap and an expensive hair straightener?

spanks a bunch to anyone who can help.

a cheap hair straightener dries out your hair causeing split ends and all that crap, makes it look not so hot.. also the effect doesn't last long, and you have to go over the same parts of you hair more than once.
a proper hair straightener.. i cant remember at the minute what the good stuff is made of. its like acrylic something.. i dont know.. but it turns a red colour before you start starightening. it doenst dry out your hair, makes it look silky.. my hair is really hard to stay straight, like as soon as any moisture hits it it goes all blah.. but ive gotten mine done with a good one, and its amazing, you can even go out into the rain and your hair still looks as good as it did after you finish straightening it. i havent gotten myself a proper one yet, but might as well start off with something thats gonna save your time and energy and keep your hair healthy and look really good.

Joanne, it makes a HUGE difference.
I have naturally straight hair and I use a cheap flat iron...however, when I got to the salon or borrow Nev's good one my hair looks 100x better. I haven't invested in a good one because, well, I'm not sure why, but it's definitely on my list of items to buy.

I recommend hot tools and chi irons!

I totally agree that a good ceramic straightener is much betta.

Wait until like around boxing day/new years ... you can score some sweet deals.

I second this!
I have pretty straight hair, and started off using a steam straightener, the straightness never seemed to last very long, so I splurged and got a ceramic one, HEAPS better :)
also, good to get a heat protection product for your hair that you use before you start straightening, protects it from damage and stuff.
the ceramic straighteners can be around $100, but it's worth it for that super straight shiny look

Makes a mah-siv difference.

My hair is pretty straight but it looks AMAZING when I've taken a GOOD straightener to it, it's a worthwhile investment to spend good money on one imo.

Mine is a model XTC302 by Ecstasy.

Sounds strange, I know... But the deal is I know it's good bc my hairdresser actually bought it and started using it in her salon, but its too big for her seriously tiny hands, so she sold it to me for a good discount. I'm not sure how much they are originally, but I paid $80? I can't remember. Here's a link to a similar thread on clubvibes. Part way down, Bella Mafia talks about the XTC straightener :y: and an article on Ecstasy's hot iron 'technology'.

My sister has the BaByliss 'Pro Ceramic Iron' something or other, and she's very happy with hers also.

And she paid about $100 or less for it. She bought it at a professional salon, and that is key. Don't buy it from the drugstore, even if it says "salon quality". She take her hair from self-made waves to straight, or its great for taking the ponytail kinks out. (Of course mine does all that too.)

it like uses moisture from ur hair and it makes ur hair silky smooth..

I have the futura and a hair art (the nustik, see http://www.hairartandinfo.com/irons.htm) because I hate my natural hair and would die if one of mine broke and I was without any iron.

I generally use the hair art because it's ceramic and I feel it does less damage to my hair.

I'm on my second har art straightner as one died on me, but they replaced it as it was under warrenty. This being said I know many long term hair art owners who have never had a problem.

yeah use a good one and dot forget to put something on your hair to protect it first cuz even a good one can still dry out your hair, but not as bad as a cheap one
