I know this has already been replied to, but I just wanted to add one other thing... It's not about treating animals as equals. It's about treating them with respect. Yes, the natural way of the world is a food chain, and we have to eat other animals in order to survive. I can understand that. But what we DON'T have to do is maltreat & torture them beforehand. They can live their lives as well, before we go and kill them for mass food production. Sure it's a little more money for the industry to let them live, but it should be MANDATORY to do this. To quote Dostoyevsky, you can "judge the character of a society by how it treats its prisoners." Or, in this case, it's animals & children. Just a thought.

Vitamin-X will become famous soon enough
Personally what scares me is that these overcrowded conditions are the perfect medium for breeding humanities own super diseases.

We're pumping unhealthy chickens with no or weakened imune systems full
of our own antibiotics. Seems to me that the diseases that will come out of this will have some natural imunity to our medicines.

there already are bacteria that are antibiotic resistance, such as methicillin staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin resistant enterococcus, which both by the way, are very common in hospitals!

and farmers don't just give the sick chickens antibiotics. they give chickens and other animals antibiotics also because it's been found that those who are given antibiotics (even when they're not sick), will grow bigger and become less sick often.

but it's not only the farmers who are at fault. people who use anti-bacterial anything and overprescription of antibiotics for viral illness also play a huge role in the development of bacterial resistance.

antibacterial soap doesn't stop natural anti-bacterial stuff from producing. it makes it so that in the long run, the bacteria who do survive become more resistant to it.

so now, it's just really important to educate people about this, because in some cases, it's possible for some of the more resistant bacteria to turn back into a less resistant state, and also to stop the formation of new bacteria-resistant bugs.

From what I heard the bacteria stops making bacteria because the anti-bacteria isn't bacteria enough to stop the anti-bacteria, so the bacteria and the anti-bacteria call a gang truce and have punch and cookies in the gymnasium.........707.

I'm sure everyone on this board agrees it's wrong to mistreat animals. Face it, its a raver board. For the most part, we are a very peaceful bunch.

I was merely trying to point out that it's a little silly to compare the treatment of livestock with the treatment of children in slave labour situations.
Just a wee bit of a different ballpark, is it not?

^it is in a different ballpark.. but they are slightly connected.

children's rights came from animal rights activists. animals had cruelty rights before children did.

It's not a necessity. It's a habit.

People eat meat because it's what they've known all of their lives, they like the taste, the conditions animals have to live in to become their meal are not of any concern to them, they're not aware of the conditions and it's convenient.

It is not NECESSARY to kill animals for food in order to survive. And factory farming is absolutely not necessary. I don't have a problem with other people killing animals in a humane way if that's the choice that they have made and they can respect an animals life before they kill it, but factory farming is just shameful.

j/k You are right.

Hmmm, regardless of this whole rant and boycotting, I don't eat fast food as a rule anyways, I don't like the taste of it and it's really bad for you. I haven't eaten at KFC in years. My rule is, anything that you can smell in your car while driving AWAY from said venue, can't be healthy for you. Honestly, you can smell a KFC or a McDicks blocks away from where it is.

As far as cruelty is concerned... it's nothing new, doesn't make it right, but humans have been slaughtering animals brutally for centuries, it's just back then we didn't have to make EVERYTHING politically correct.

Actually previous cultures respected nature and everything in it.

Only if they absolutely had to would they kill an animal.

Sacrifice it to the gods, and actually feel alot of remorse for doing it.

They would use every single last bit of the animal, not wasting anything.

Now look at us !, and we're supposed to be more advanced ?

Indians were doing things way better than before we showed up.

At one point in time a virgin was sacrificed to take the animal to the gods.

Our world to day is nothing but greed.

We are 20% consuming 80% leaving 20% for 80%....just ignorant.

I'm all for the day when Western society gets its Karma.
