Kraig is bang on, it is not possible for an employer to prevent you from earning a living. Non compete clauses usually only hold up for very senior people. This is especially so in BC as the courts are very biased towards the employee. I asked this question to a lawyer from Bull, Housser & Tupper since I have a non-compete clause and he just laughed and said don't worry about it.

For the record, non-competes are generally there just to scare the person signing the contract and usually don't hold up in court... especially when it's something small like this
