First movie was awful. I knew that before even reading the book.

Then having read the book and having known what a brilliant story Heinlein wrote, that just made the movie suck that much more.

The concept of sequels for this is just further trodding over the man's grave.

Back to reading Stranger In A Strange Land for me....

I didn't know either until seeing on the shelf at the videostore a while back.


The first was a decent brain-off action film. I don't think a direct translation of the book onto film would not have gone well: Little too sappy for the late teen male audience to admit to wanting to see.

Also, Heinlein was a... odd fellow. Wrote some good stories, but some of his ideas might upset the general audience.

Yeah, they made a 2nd one, straight to beta type thing, I caught a glimpse of it. More like going into a drama genre. It blew.

I loved the first one, cheese acting and terribly gory.

Maybe i'll download the 3rd, it looks ok and as much as i hate to say this, thank god Rico is back

I've always liked the first one....I don't think it's even that cheesy, except for in an intentional kind of way that seems to work. I knew nothing about the second one but the fact that Rico's in the 3rd one makes it a bit better (I hate sequels with no connections to the originals)....though I'm sure it's still gonna be pretty bad.

Starship Troopers is not supposed to be cheesy in any way, intentional or not.

It's a blatant action flick. The book however is an examination of working in service of the military, and does it brilliantly without being critical of the military itself (it's about people, not organizations or even really about war).

BSG has a bad name?

Everybody I've spoken to says it's one of the best sf series in recent history. Having watched the miniseries I'm almost inclined to agree, though I still like Farscape a bit better.

Decent writing and/or direction? A director who actually read past the first twenty pages of the book? Some artistic integrity instead of just-another-action-flick focusing on the shiny bells and whistles you laid out?

i'm talking aboot people who won't watch it because of dumb shows like "starship troopers".

bsg is awesome. if you've only watched the miniseries you've seen shit all. i can't think of any show that's better.

I never read the book so I wasn't expecting anything when I saw the first one. That said, I was highly entertained when I saw the first one, I'd compare it to the first time I saw Robocop.

The 2nd should never have been made, but from the trailer, this looks like it could be as good (or as bad as some of you think) as the first one.

okay okay whatever it was crap. but you know what i still enjoy crap from time to time. the new RAMBO anyone? that movie kicked serious ass.
