Went and saw an advanced screening of "Hero" tonight and all I can say is that visually it is absolutely stunning. Director Yimou Zhang's use of vibrant colours to offset the dark and bland canvas of the screen is brilliant. The fight scenes were extremely well choreographed. I'm amazed that it's taken over two years for this film to make it's way to North America. It also makes me wonder why Jet Li has to be associated with such garbage Hollywood pictures yet can be a part of this brilliant piece of Chinese cinema. Overall if you enjoyed "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" you'll love this film.

i saw the chinese version a few months ago... the fight scene between the 2 chicks in the forest was like the most beautiful scene i've ever seen... except when the hot girl died :(

Even if the movie is dubbed in English I am certain much of the "emotion" of the movie will be lost in the translation.

I wasn't sure what a "Tarintino'd" version meant... I assumed they would have dubbed it.

I watched it in Cantonese with subtitles and the translation was far from accurate. I kinda feel sorry for the people that got the visual imagery but then miss the spoken part.

PS. Did you think it was funny when the guy used the big brush to make that scroll and then when it dried all the edges were perfect?

The funny thing is that did pop into my head while I was watching the movie. I was all like "Wow this guy is supposed to be a master calligrapher, but look at that sloppy piece of shit!!!", then it was all BAM PERFECT!!!

that goes for pretty much all foreign films tho, atleast its been my wexperience with wop movies, and the wife's with japanese movies.

Yeah, and I'm sure that for a couple of dollars more than it would cost to rent the movie, they could go see it on the big screen--the way a movie like this should be seen.

or for the same price of renting it u can just buy it. a real version to not a pirated one. but seeing it on the big screen would be dope. i only watched it on dvd 2 years ago and even thoguh the movie sucks the fight scenes and all that are realy sweet.

Wow, seeing that movie on the big screen was AMAZING, I'm definitely going to have to see it again while in theatres...just incredible visually..I loved the forest fight scene and the one where they were fighting on top of the water.

And partizan, if you've never seen any kind of martial arts movie before, it's probably a good idea not to come out looking like an ass.

the reason i say this is because we all know jet li and alot of other chinese stars are capable of real martial arts. nothing pisses me off when i see a chinese martial arts movie with stupid matrix bullshit in the fights. its like watching jet li in "the one" why do they have to add all these stupid effects when they can do shti fine on their own. thats why i say it sucks.
