Ring Two

I've got mixed feelings about this one.

The beginning was crap. It was cheesy, and pretty much how every scary movie begins. The irony's pretty funny though.

Rachel and her son, Aidan, have now moved to the small town of Astoria, where they're trying to start over. Again, this storyline's been done before. Being a sequel, Samara ends up finding them and the drama begins.

This time around, there seems to be less back story, less time in-between scares. I guess it's the whole sequel thing. There really isn't much story in the first third of the movie. Just scare after scare and you're left wondering how the movie is going to progress.

Then, the movie gets better. Rachel realizes what's going on, making things more interesting as you watch her figure things out.

I don't think it's as good as the first, and I don't think it's as scary. The first one was more unpredictable and "artsy" in a way. This one feels like a normal horror movie. Amongst the many Ring wannabes, it doesn't really stand out. There's some new characters thrown in, some new settings, but not much has changed. The storyline is pretty interesting though.

Newho, for the previews, there are two new movies coming "From the author of The Ring." One looks good - The Skeleton Key. And the other looks like The Ring, but with Jennifer Connelly and her daughter - Dark Water.
