One of the scariest movies I saw was "Purple Noon" - an early 1960s movie. Well maybe more suspenseful than scary. Scary in the Alfred Hitchcock way.

It is based on the same book as "Mr Ripley" from a few years ago which is a pale imitation.

The hospital hallway scene in Excorcist III has scarred me for life when I walk down long empty hallways now.

Section 9 was pretty creepy too.

The Changeling scared me when i was younger.

I thought the Ring (japanese version) was pretty creepy and i thought the Grudge was pretty cheesy but also scary.

I prefer the movies where the monster or ghost or whatever is left up to the imagination rather than the gory slashers of today.

wow. .. the dark crystal never scared me (I just watched it on TV actually), but arachnaphobia was the only movie that got me as a kid.

I don't find any movies scary now, unfortunately.

HOLY SHIT! I forgot all about that movie. That scared the fuck out of me, and probably still would. That scene in the phonebooth where they turn around and see the three slimey fingerprints.... jesus. Good call, Chris.

Steven King's It and Pet Cemetary.

edit: i forgot about Child's Play!
i think that series played a huge part in me not playing with dolls as a kid.

haha, I kept on assessing how hard my family, friends, and coworkers would be to kill/escape from if they turned into zombies for a good two weeks after I saw that film.
