so i just watched the davinci code.....

just watched a test screening to run the print before tomorows opening.

It was great. loved how the history of the templar knights is so easily layed out and paletable for the movie going masses to understand.

theres a reason why this whole thing has created such a stir...to prepare the masses for some serious shit comming down in the very near futuer.

I love how this movie exposes the average mom and pop to the history of the templar knights and the role they play through history. ALTHOUGH, there was one person i was talking with a few weeks ago who admired dan brown for his imagination to think of such a story like 'the knights templar, and merovingian bloodlines'........

...i wanted to punch her in the fucking face.

anyways, its a good movie. very cerebral. hardcore taboo history wraped arouond a easily digestable plot for mum and dad.

and of course, all with the friendly wholsome face of tom hanks to help sell it.

I gotta see this. Is Tom Hanks wearing a robe?

They were interviewing a guy in UK who could be a descendant. Last name Sinclair which is a short form of Saint Clair which somehow relates to this. But no halo.

See also Kingdom of Heaven for more stuff about the Knights of Templar. Pretty good flick that shows how Christians & Moslems were in big rumbles way back. (Crusades).

Novel vs Scholars
Q&A

Novel say:

Jesus' followers viewed him as mortal, not divine, until the year 325, when Roman Emperor Constantine convened a meeting of bishops called the Council of Nicaea. Constantine, converned that religious divisions were threatening his power base, endorsed the idea that Jesus was divine as a way to unify the empire.

Scholars say:

Constantine did convene the Council of Nicaea in 325, but the New Testament includes references to Jesus as divine, including in the Gospel of John, which historians say was written toward the end of the 1st century. The dispute at Nicaea was primarily not over whether Jesus was divine but over how he could be both human and divine-- a debate that led to the doctrine of the Trinity.

Novel say:

The Bible as we know it was put together by Constantine as part of the effort to unify his empire, and he suppressed other gospels that portrayed Jesus as earthly. "More than eighty gospels were considered for the New Testament" the book says.

Scholars say:

It's not known how many other gospels were written, though there are "at least a couple dozen," according to Bart Ehrman, religious studies chairman at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Most of the other gospels portray Jesus "in even more divine terms than do the four in the canon," Ehrman writes.

Novel say:

Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, and they had a daughter named Sarah. This makes sense because he was a jew and celibacy was condemned under Jewish law.

What scholars say:

No early Christian sources include any reference to a marriage or a wife. On the issue of Jewish celibacy, Ehrman notes that the Jews who produced the Dead Sea Scrolls in the 1st century were celibate.

Novel say:

Memebers of the Catholic movement Opus Dei engage in violent forms of self flagellation.

Scholars say:

Opus Dei encourages adherents to practice limited "corporal mortification," which means denial of something one desires. That could mean fasting or waiting to drink when thirsty. Some Opus Dei members are celibate laypeople and priests who practise types of mortification that produce discomfort.

"in violent forms of self flagellation."

"laypeople and priests who practise types of mortification that produce discomfort."

same shit different rhetoric.

Also not all gospels convey Jesus as divine, some are gnostic such as the gospel of Judas which everyone is talking about right now.

i think the phrasing that everybody refers to as jesus being divine is where he calls himself son of god. interestingly enough, he stated that he was a son of god, not the son of god. his whole point was that any one person can be as holy as he.

basically he's just another wizard whose myth has outlasted his message.

^uhm,if his point was that any one person could be as holy as he...then that would make him the poster child for satanisim...

because well, thats what satanisim revolves around and is based upon.
each man is thier own god, they do not answer to anyone but themselves.Theyre pro hedonisim...christianity is not.

Yeah, zingy one liners aside, I'd say the movie isn't exactly being
promoted as a fictional story. Most people believe that this film is historically accurate. That's clearly one of the reasons the post printed that article.

^ General rule of thumb - People are retarded. No exceptions.

Anyone find it just a bit funny that some author (someone who writes fiction for a living) peices something like this together when theologists, archeoligists, and the church going masses (ie- people who study shit like this for a living) havn't?
Anyone?

the only reason its in the fixtion section is because off that SHITTY lame ass stereotypical sorry excuse for a murder mystery wraped around some hard core historical events based on factual information.ESP when it comes to the histry of the templar knights.

dan browns previous novel 'angels and demons' is the same thing.

6 fucking years ago i was called a nut-job for going on about the illuminati, freemasons and templars ect. Now any twit can tune into A&E and watch a full on doc about the subject. or go to any library and rent a dan brown novel and claim to be a expert on it.

its everywhere now.

my fucking girlfriend's mom and her bridge players she meets every sunday talk about illimanati and freemasons now..

ugh.

*edited out some swearing.*

^^ Enlighten me then.
What factual information are you refering to.
Did you read the Q&A I posted about 7 posts back?
I'm not throwing up flak, I'm just not sure what you're talking about.
