http://www.joystiq.com/2006/07/31/e3...as-new-e3expo/ Heh I remember my friend talking to me earlier this year... Friend: Hey, I can get us tickets to E3 Me: Nah, too busy. Let's go next year WOMP WOMP |

heard about this today - glad i went in 2000.
Honestly, it's better off for the industry - E3 was probably one of the biggest money pits in the industry in more ways than just the millions it costs for the booth and shows. Companies put so much weight on a good showing at e3 that development for the actual games grinds to a standstill when developers try to produce a near-beta looking demos - often with alpha-level code. With a lot of the press out of the picture companies can focus more on a GDC-like convention focused more on the exchange of ideas rather than a glorified marketing party that costs a shit-load of money with little guarentee of return. |

I read this earlier too, now at least we'll get most of our gaming information throughout the year instead of all at once. Having never attended one myself, I was dissapointed by this news, hopefully it will let developers take more time and not rush it to make the E3 deadline. (although I think there are still E3 type conventions in other countries.)

yea well, it's easy to hear if you just read the article linked in the original post.
if you're too lazy to move you mouse hand to click on a link i can sum it up for you: E3 is done. Kaput. Over. There might be a smaller type convention only for interested developers (i.e. no press) but there will be no more huge conventions in LA cause companies are sick of paying so much money for not that much return. edit: outposted :-\ |
