i've been looking and looking but can't find an answer..

do the song ratings actually effect anything?


or are they purely for my benefit. (ie. sorting and playlist shiz)


(a few people i know are under the impression that the song rating affects priority in a shuffle situation)

I believe it does effect the rotation in party shuffle.

It's mostly for sorting by rating though.

Although I haven't used Itunes in almost a year.

Yes, you can use song ratings to affect the shuffle. To be honest, I usually rate songs on the first few listens so that I remember what I liked on different albums. With some smart playlist magic [btw if you put smart playlists on the iPod and set them to live update, they will - but I've noticed that it only displays changes once you navigate out then back into the playlist]

What else would you want them to affect? [I'm sure there's a way for most things, but if you're on Windows you're missing a lot of the beauty of AppleScripting iTunes] Of course, on the iPod that won't make much of a difference.

I dunno, i ripped out the ipod software as soon as I could an installed rockbox.
