Anyone into the auto sales industry?

So I just received a call from my dealership wondering whether if I want to trade my car which is a 2002 (Bought used with 50k on it). I still have like 3 years of payments to do on it. However they are offering to for me to trade it in for a brand new 08. "Supposively" about the same payments..

Seems like there is a catch to it but I dunno where it can be. Just wondering if anyone has ever encounter this and how the outcome was..

the outcome would be.....same monthly car payments for the next 8 (or more year) rather than the 3

it's a no-brainer, get rid of that old car and get the new one!!!

there is a catch to it....
while it is a fantastic deal, and chances are, the interest rate will be phenomenal, you will get nothing for your trade.

with the dollar being as good as it is, canadian car dealers are being forced to sell cars at a really low interest rate because you can buy the same car in the US for $4k less. most people are crossing the border to buy cars.

there is no used market right now. car dealers cant sell used cars and they cant keep new cars on the lot.

you would have better luck selling your car privately and buying new. dont throw money away.

and didn't this last one give you a bunch of trouble when you first bought it?

Buy like a pre-owned toyota certified 5 year old camry or something, you'll probably be happier.

Ya I got it when there was 50,000 km on it.. was a 2002 model. 2 month after owning it the altenator died on me... Then a crack formed on the windsheild... Turns out it wasn't a factory windshield to begin with (Still has a crack going across it). I need a new timing belt installed on it. Tranny is acting strange... Keep in mind though the dealership where I purchased it in abby closed down, there service was shit and never backed up what they sold. It seems like my car was initially a rental car in ontario when it was new. The kia dealership in langley however is alot nicer. I went there twice since the one in abby is closed so its the only place I can have it serviced.

As much as I want to go with another brand, I don't think that I would get any reasonable trading value based on what Kia is offering.

so consider going with kia a sunk cost and make a better decision.

otherwise they're going to have you by the short and curlies for many years to come offering you "deals" like this.
