"Baraka" showing @ The Ridge Theatre!!!

For those of you who are interested in documentaries this is an intense show to watch especially for those of you who are animal lovers. I am sure there are some people on here who have heard of this film and have seen it already but it is always worth seeing again! So anyways, "Baraka" is playing back to back with another film called "Microcosmos" for only $7.00 (the price for seeing one show).

Wednesday, November 2 - Thursday, November 3

Baraka
Wednesday 7:30pm
Thursday 9:10pm
A Ridge favourite, back by request, Ron Fricke's mesmerizing tour through the high and low points of modern civilization is a visual tour de force guaranteed to leave you gasping. An around-the-world travelogue packed with stunning images and propelled by a hypnotic score. (USA, 1993, 96 min.) PG: occasional nudity

Microcosmos
Wednesday 9:20pm
Thursday 7:30pm
"A vivid and magical exploration of the microscopic world of insects, this film is so beautiful and technologically advanced it makes The Discovery Channel's shows look like junior-high biology experiments..." -Box Office. A riveting, absolutely delightful work, brought back by request. (USA, 1996, 75 min.) General

Here is the link to The Ridge Theatre site for any of you who want to check it out, it has the address and more film listings coming up.

A friend of mine refuses to eat chicken, to this day, because of "Barraka".

She still refers to it as "The Barraka Incident"...

And "Microcosmos" is simply astounding!!!

great film. I wouldn't call it a documentary so much as an audio/visual art piece although there definitely is a message in the film (gets a little heavy handed with the chickens tho).

I remember watching it on acid once - intense :)

^good point.Having said that I think I would probably consider it a documentary shown through audio/visual art then because I still think it can fall under the documentary category aswell. :)

I haven't seen "Microcosmos" yet but I hear it is a beautiful film and I can't wait to see it tomorrow!

Baraka is lovely, i've seen it on video but seeing it in theatre would be a completely different experience.

^ it's meant to be seen in the theatres - amazing. Ron Fricke basically lugged a 50mm camera into 6 continents and like 50+ countries filming footage for a year and spliced it together to an amazing soundtrack.

it's basically about nothing... and everything.

amazing...

Didn't they used to play clips of Baraka at Organix?

Tripped out flick that one is. Only seen bits and pieces of it.
Too bad it's only playing the two days before payday. =(

2 Thumbs UP

I rented Baraka about a year ago -- it is a truly profound work of art! I am sure everyone will be touched in their own ways after watching this film. There really doesn't need to be a script/words because the brillant photos tells a story in itself and each person will interpret its meaning differently. The best part is that you will walk away from this film with new perspectives and appreciation. It certainly has opened my eyes!

Thanks for the notice.

my ass is sooo bruised from those seats it's ridiculus.. and i didn't get home until 2 am .but it was worth it :)

those bugs were so cute.. the catapilar dude that fell asleep and the scarab beetle that was pushing that little ball around were my favourite

i think it may have changed my outlook on bugs =oP
