For the record, the thing which brings us all together here (I'm assuming that for the most part it was raves) is came from Gay culture, the same culture that gave us the hankie convention (want to know someone's inner fetishes? Look at their back pocket...) not to mention the joyful androgeny of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Before you go off on tangeants about how freaked out a fetish makes you or how disgusting it is, remember that there _ARE_ people out there who get off of it, regardless of whether or not you do. I'm not saying that you have to go out and scream about how great Golden Showers are, but beyond "Not my thing" I think you can happily avoid extra comment on it. So next one of you PLUR-preaching automotons wants to go on how "I've never tried it, it is therefore wrong" be ready to be met with a hostile post from me. Because I'm getting sick of hearing all about how much you kids love the scene but yet merely infect it with your paranoid defenses that just make it so that true chaotic hedonism can never again exist at a rave.

Agreed, but I think it is very very important to ensure that liberal mined people who have the strength of character to stand up for sexual diversity are given mad props. In today's world there is nothing wrong with sexual diversity or the people who practice it, I think it should be encouraged. I think it has plenty to do with being a raver, given raves' history, and where they come from. Like many great music movements of the late 20th Century, raves and rave-like clubs came out of Gay culture and as such were thoroughly sexualized in its beginnings. Sadly that's depricated to the point where a lot of ravers go to raves and have become thoroughly uncomfortable with the people there. This is sad because it means all that reservedness and hesitation that goes out the window in pure hedonism returns, and you're not so much having an indulgent free-for-all as you are a glorified high school dance with all the reservations that come with it. Again, it goes right down to Children Shouldn't Be At Raves.

Are you saying that one's knowledge/attitudes/ignorance about sex and sexuality have to do with being a raver? Doesn't a raver consist of those who go to raves? In disagreeing with me are you saying that going to a single rave, a few, or even more could influence one's attitudes towards sex to such a degree that you could exclude it as the sole or major relating factor to the reasons why people possess certain attitudes about sex? I can see how being immersed in any culture/atmosphere can influence one's attitudes about various issues, but I can't buy that particular argument. You argue that ravers and their sexual attitudes are related "given raves' history" but consider that that history is no longer relevant to the generation of kids now. I think that's pretty sad then. I wouldn't say that these people are raving. I'd say they're doing drugs, dancing and thinking it's a life-changing experience. As far as I remember, that's what constitutes a High School Prom, not a Rave.

I'd like to believe that. But the reasons don't seem to be diverse any more. How many people are there for reasons other than the following:

1) Drugs
2) Music

They're all nice, but in all fairness, I can do both those at home. Why would I do it at an overcrowded venue where people look at me weird for wearing different clothing?
